Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Hey just saw Celtic is on top of it so hopefully the OP will post back. Other than what you see on her post I have no idea, just saw no one had answered her.

Good, it's odd.. i just don't even know what to suggest past the typical, what is the bedding, feed.. what have they been exposed too.. quite puzzling?

OK! I haven't been reading up on this and my search is acting wacko so can y'all tell me how it's going, please :)

Paula love the wings shot and the grown up ducks.

Wolf good luck with this hatch. I too have the bators back on, fired all of them up about a month ago now.
Thanks. When does your laying season start down there?
Apparently it's animal rescue day for me

.

Found a mouse in the bathroom. Caught it and released in back into the field.

Then a kitten ended up getting stuck in some netting I had laying around

. The darn thing scratched me but I got it free and it's now back with it's mother and siblings.
Kevin to the rescue, yay! Hopefully the mouse didn't end up as a snack for the cats, lol.

Quote: today and yesterday I have hatching!!! 4 and 1/2 hatched. the sixth egg was a bust... I had to open the bator during lockdown because some of the chicks were picking at one of the chicks feet that has a foot problem. I think the chick with the problem was the most recent hatch. It's feet are in like fists would be the best way to describe it. I gave it a little vitamin water and took out the other hatched chicks that were picking on it. the 1/2 is pipped but not out yet. Now I have to find out about fist feet!

Hope it's lil feet are doing better this morning Wulf

All of our bators are on again and will be into June 2013 now. One cabinet is almost completely full and the hatchers are waiting for eggs to move over to them. Looking at a new cabinet as well, waiting for final info to arrive in the mail on it. 5' tall, 3' deep and 4' wide beast, but will make it to where we dont run out of room in the spring either.

Hello everyone just noticed this thread didnt know there was one in the duck section.Do yall mind if i join you? I will be putting some duck eggs in my homemade cooler bator tomorrow still trying to get the temperature to stop losing heat.My bator has been running for 3days the high temp is 99-100and it drops to 94-96 degrees.Going to add another light to stay on and some river rock to help hold heat. I am going to have 18 mallard eggs and 12 pekin. Most probaly wont do anything cause i have been gathering them for about 2wks.

If you can keep your bator at 99-100 without more then very brief dips in temps, you should be fine. Ducks and geese sometimes lay for a couple of weeks before sitting them. Even better if they were not shipped.
