Oh My Gosh you guys I need help now!! One of my ducks just attacked BEaker!! She is bleeding and it looks like she might be like... scalped! Tell me what to do!

Oh dear. Are you sure is not just feathers pulled off?

Can you gently dab away the blood and have a look at how bad it is? If there's a significant tear in the skin it might need stitching.

Does Beaker have a crest or tuft?

I have mutt duck eggs too if anyone wants. Ancona and khaki hen, and a blue who knows drake, lol. Tibetan coturnix quail too, in a few months once I have a few more girls. I only get one egg a day now, not sure if it's because it's cold or if I only have one girl.

I'll be glad to send some out in spring though, if anyone wants quail.

Clean it up, see how bad it is. I don't think I'd be able to stitch up a duck, super glue might be easier and should work.

X2 I have super glue just for those type of situations

The disadvantage of superglue is that it seals the wound completely. If things aren't 100% sterile that creates a good environment for infection. But it can be better than nothing in an emergency.

QJ, try flushing the wound with lukewarm saline water using a syringe or eye dropper. Cleaning it up will give you a better view of the extent of the problem

Unless it's really bad I wouldn't seal the wound at all. If you use superglue and it gets infected you have no way of letting it drain or disinfecting it and you are looking at antibiotics.

Birds can recover from pretty bad wounds. Often all they need is for the wound to be cleaned and some Betadine applied.

Hopefully Beaker doesn't have a crest or tuft. At times like these you see the advantage of having a fully formed skull...

I'm getting ready to post this pic... But it has some graphicness to it. (I dont think it's graphic really, but it's got blood.) FYI!
