Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I have a hatch of Ameracaunnas and Dutch babies coming to hatch starting Friday. Nothing piped yet. Excited weighting . First hatch of Ameracaunnas they are from a Blue wheaten rooster and a Blue hen and a wheaten hen.

What colors might get from this cross?

I'm getting ready to set my 6 buff eggs I picked up from Metzer yesterday. Just triple checking the stability of the incubator.

Question - do you set eggs on their side or vertically? I have the Little Giant still air basic incubator (first time!) and it has the metal rail to set them on their side.
Also, what is the correct way to turn eggs? Do you just roll them over, or pick them up and move them to a different part of the bator?

Thanks! And will keep you all updated on my progress

Congrats and good luck! Little giant still air bators can be tricky to hatch waterfowl. I recommend studying the waterfowl hatching and incubation guide, found as a sticky at the top of forum threads. I would lay them down and roll 180 degrees, but also moving them around every few days as the heat and humidity are not evenly distributed in incubator. Also, beware of changes in room conditions as that will affect stability of temps.

Thanks! Like I said it's my first time so I wanted my eggs to get the best possible start which is why I got them from Metzer's. Just opened the box and I'd ordered six but they put an extra one in there for me too

. I've moved my bator to our spare room which seems to stay a more even and cooler temperature than the rest of the house. We live in Central California so they daytime heat can crank up the heat of our home during the day. Something I will obviously keep an eye on. I'll calibrate the bator in there and then set them either tonight or tomorrow morning. I'm so excited and nervous - I'd love to at least get a couple out of this batch.

I've been trying to read through this thread from the start, up to pg 150, hoping to read it all before my hatch day and say hey but just have an emergency. HELP! The light on my bator went off and temp dropped to 25 eggs are cold to touch. I'm on day 20. Not sure how long it had been off. I had them on a warm hot water bottle with my hands over them trying to warm them while bator got back up to heat. It had now so back in but eggs are still cool. Helllppp.what can I do? Is it too late? SM? Miss Lydia? Duck girl? Quackerjack? Anyoneeeee!? I can't loose these babies one of my cats just died :(
I've completed the final week of incubation on a heating pad (on low) with no problems. You do have to watch for hot spots, and keep a thermometer on it just like you would in a bator.. 99* was usually my temp.

Hi PSue and GQ, and all the new folks! How awesome to see so many when I come back.

I just set 25 goose eggs today, and I have geese and chickens due tomarrow (chickens hatch due, goose pip due). I, like you PSue, have scattered hatches of geese, turkeys, and chickens. I don't have a single duck egg set. I've only got the one ancona hen just now, so once I separate out the extra boys, I'll leave her and my favorite drake togather and hatch out some nice ducklings once I've survived goose egg season!

I also have Easter Goslings (sebbies) that I havn't even take a single pic of yet! I

might get better answers from a chicken thread ... I THINK chicken genetics and waterfowl genetics are different
