Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I ended up moving them as I had to help the other egg hatch, it had pipped but hadn't zipped in over 24hrs and it was a good idea that I did. It was in the wrong position and its feet we're curled and neck twisted. It survived overnight in the incubator

its neck is straightening up and getting stronger. Feet are still curled though - I'm off to buy some nician and multi-vitamins this aftternoon and I went to the vets this morning for the vet tape to make boots for its feet.

Does anybody know how to make the boots for ducks? I've seen plenty of pictures for the chickens.

If I can get it walking and on these vitamins I think it will be ok. As its still less then 24hrs since it hatched I've left him/her in the incubator. It can join the others once I've sorted the feet.

I'd try card board wrap in vet tape to give some support then cut to fit bottom of feet, then place feet onto cut out and gently wrap with vet tape being very careful not to get tight just snug. this will keep the feet in proper position and hopefully in a few days you'll be able to remove.

Congrats!

Thanks for that, I think I have a little miracle duckling. I was hearbroken when He/She arrived, this lovely little duckling looking at you and completely helpless - couldn't stand up and with the cuvature of the spine/neck its balance was all over the place. Wasn't able to feed or drink by itself. Its feet were totaly curled and didn't have the strength to stand.

So this little duckling hatched Monday evening and he/she has just gone from strength to strength. It couldn't cope with both feet in boots and the tape for spraddle legs so I alternated the feet in the boots and today I was albe to take them off, they're not perfect but at least its able to walk round now. Its holding its head better, I don't have to help it feed or drink any longer.

I will have to sort out its wings as it uses them alot when it falls over and it tries to get back up so its looks like angel wings but I figured let it get its strength up and I can sort them later when its not falling over as much.

So what did I do, I followed the advice I found on here: extra vitamins, nician and lots of attention as well as duck physio. I would gently rub the feet and legs to get the circulation going. Now I think its going to learn more from its siblings than me so I put them all together today and they've been great.

I'm so grateful for all the information that I found on here, I have got quite attached to the little one (its half the size of its siblings). So thanks to all the people who take the time to answer the questions and post all the information.

Seeing a Germinal Disk in a duck egg is good right? I have never really hatched eggs before. I have 3 duck eggs sitting under my hen right now. :)
