In the meantime...QuackerJack, if your duckling looks exactly like that one of Stillmecle's and its head it stuck in the shell in the same way then take the end of the bill in your fingers and very very gently pull its head free of the shell. Make sure there's no membrane sticking to its head to prevent you easing its head out. Do nothing more then release its head. Don't pull any more of it out of the shell. It may still have yolk to absorb. I'm suggesting this because yours is tired and had been stuck and warrants the extra help.

Stillmecle - if your duckling has really truly removed all that shell all by itself and now has its head wedged in the shell then I'd suggest doing the same as above. But if you have been helping then don't do anything yet because the duckling may not be ready - wait a while to see if it can free its head by itself.

Thanks 70. It's head still has membrane around it but it seems to be able to move it. The foot was stuck so I sort of put it in "hatch position" so to speak. This is hard to explain. There are no more blood vessels left to absorb that I can see.

As a general update: He's hanging in there. I'm assisting him little by little. I think he will have just enough strength to bust out of there. I'm giving him an hour or so to rest up.

I thought I better come and update everybody. Baby is 3 quarters of the way out. Strong strong baby. Big feet I can't see his eyes. There's a lotta hair covering the eyes. At least I hope there's eyeballs in there. Looks like he has some of the gold markings of his mama. He is still pushing trying to get the rest of the way out. I just can't believe how big his feet are. I will go upload a picture of him.
