My japanese eggs are pipping.

I might get some new years day chicks after all even though they aren't due until Thursday. I've got one duck pipped right on time, and another that hasn't pipped yet. Baby time here soon.

My youngest was not impressed with the snow last time, but today when I took her out there she threw herself down in it and started rolling around and laughing. Then she ate a bunch, and I eventually had to drag her inside after she turned into a soggy muddy mess.

You guys are getting me thinking about firing up my bator. My ducks have pretty much finished molting, so I think they may start laying again soon. Then again, I'd have to separate my cayugas and anconas so I'd have purebred eggs which doesn't seem worth it.......... so maybe I'm not ready yet to hatch again.

Ok did you just talk yourself out of hatching babies? You just wait until next week...... I've got baby ducks due then should be Anconas and Runners hatching and I will just post lots of pics of cute little baby ducks so you will have to get the incubator out and hatch some of your own.

I have a lot on my plate at the moment, but I'm sure if I hang out on this thread again for very long, I won't be able to resist the itch to hatch. On the other hand, I'm kind of wanting to hold out until my dewlaps start laying as that is what I really want to hatch more of. By the way, do you want me to send you some dewlap eggs in the spring? I'll have plenty!

Wow, today is the busiest I've seen this thread in awhile. It's nice to be back chatting/hatching with everyone.

I hear mixed answers on that - I've heard 19 days and 21 days. I set my incubator for 20 days, figuring I'd split the difference. Mine started pipping yesterday, which was day 18.

How old were yours when they started to lay? Mine are still only from 10-14 weeks old so I have awhile, but I should figure out an idea of when to expect eggs. They are getting so sweet, my little wheaten roo will actually hop on my hand like a parrot to get taken out for treats.

Lol, we are all a bunch of enablers here. But I agree, you do need to join in on the fun and fire up that bator. You need to get back into hatching mode/work out all the kinks before your dewlaps start laying.

It's pretty much already a mucky mess here...... snowing but so warm that it melted in a lot of places and left slush. Hear it's gonna get cold tonight and turn into ice.

I want to be on the list for buff dewlap toulouse please please please..... Some hatch buddy stuff is awefully fun (when the eggs arrive) and I could use more buffs (and a few grays for Dude) to feel out my small gaggle with more babies with jumbo potential!

Coyote, I have one adult buff male/adult grey female that are my best quality and will be separated in their own pen. They will throw color-sexed babies. The rest of my ganders are juveniles. I have a really nice buff gander that has paired up with a fairly nice buff goose. I also have a really nice grey gander that is pairing up with a nice adult grey goose. They will also get their own pens. I have not decided yet if/how to separate the rest. Of course, I have my special needs group in their own yard to produce wonderful eating eggs. Prices will range from $5 to $15 for the eggs. Happy to help with hatching. I personally find geese easier to hatch than ducks!

I'm still not a big dewlap fan, but the more I see them the more they have been growing on me, lol. I only have room for one more goose here, and will probably get a gander from Paulla and Jerry this spring to keep my girls company. I miss hatching geese though, and might have to find some eggs just to hatch/sell the goslings. Not as much fun when I can't keep them, but still fun.
