Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

OMG! That is a naughty boy Christine I'm glad he is ok and that you are well prepared for such events.

Little wheaten chick is now in the brooder with the big kids and doing awesome. I'm working on fixing up an automatic water bucket for my humidity pan in my incubator because ducks are up next and I don't want to have to open the incubator to fill the pan during a hatch again.

I'm thinking I might be keeping all these little babies. I may let them grow a bit and then decide which to keep. They're just so cute!

And here's my naughty Charlie at the ER vet last night after he stole and ate a bunch of chocolate. Little thief.
I'm going to want to keep all my babies too, it's hard when they are so cute and I want to know what they'll end up looking like. Love those 2, they have such neat chick down coloring. Glad Charlie is ok, naughty doggie.

Go little wheaten chick!

The little wheaten is mostly out now, letting him kick the shell. Seems to be doing okay so

he continues to do his thing. Now that he is finally free of the stuck on membrane he is a peeper. Looks like he has sucked up his yolk fine. So 4 out of 5 is not bad. Just wish that darn Ameraucana rooster hadn't been the daddy to 2 of the wheaten eggs.

Great news on Silkie ducks. I found a drake, well it was the drake I was looking into before but now he has come down on the price of the pair where I can afford them. Hopefully I can get him to come half way for some Paint Silkie chicks and Wheaten chicks on partial trade too. So If everything goes through I can have fertile eggs when my girls start laying. I'm not going to cancel my Holderread duckling order though that way I can add 5 more nice ducklings in the spring and probably end up with another drake or two as well to replace what I lost.
Glad you found a drake!

I'm telling you - Pointers are the most mischievous dogs I've ever owned, but I think they are the best kept secret in the dog world. My last one, Oliver, was so, so bad. My coworker used to tell me I should write a book about his escapades (this was before the infamous Labrador, Marley). Charlie is an angel by comparison (the difference in energy levels between field and show lines).

Coyote - are they Ancona ducks up next?

My dad had a german short hair, she was so rotten with everything she got into and manage to do. Fantastic dog, but good grief she would keep you on your toes when she was young.

Yes Anconas and a few runners are up next. Just locked them down this morning due Monday. I intended on setting every Sunday and hatching every Sunday but was late a couple of weeks so these I think are not due til Monday.

Yeah, shorthairs are pretty energetic dogs, too.

How fun! I'm looking forward to some Ancona duckling pics!

I will post some when they get here. I'm hoping for more than just black and white this year after the new additions, but I do need to keep back a few more nice black hens.... Trying to work on eliminating rust in the blacks but I have everyone in the same paddock for now. I have a few really nice blacks that were kept from last year with no rust. Then kept a drake from Boondockers that has excellent markings only to have him develop rust

On the chocolates I'm working on chest markings this year. I also have a goal of getting a nice chocolate drake (because of the sex linked gene it's been difficult to get a chocolate drake and a nice one even harder. So going to use my Lavender drake over chocolate hens and select out the best chocolate drakes.

With the blue this year I'm going to focus on getting some nice hens because I only have 1 blue drake and he needs his own flock. Probably use my silvers with the blacks and keep the best girls for the blue drake.

On silver I'll be focusing on better markings less solid patches more broken up spots and rust.

And with Lavender I'll be working on better markings

Of course keeping into consideration many other things, but these are just some of my main breeding goals this year. I'd really love to get to a show this year too.
