Hello

I'm going to start incubating ducks for the first time and just have some general questions.

I'll be setting the first batch, some bantam appleyards, after my batch of chickens has finished hatching. What is the incubation period for bantam appleyards? And what is the recommended starting humidity? I track my eggs by weight, what is the percentage weight the eggs need to lose?

I've never hatched bantam ducks, but I know a few on here have, and I'm guessing if you check back, you'll find some breed specific info from another hatch geek.

Ok a question for anyone who hatches quail, can I set them with duck eggs? Do I need to change the temp? Or should I set up 2 incubators from the start?

poor spirit keeps getting bounced around lol although might be fun new sights and all. I am getting that trio because of fighting and she has to big of a flock, but free socialized Toulouse

I'm going to try to put my bully pair back into group yard so Spirit can go outside in his pen today. If I have to separate, I'll cross-fence the group yard instead. It's a pain in the butt, but glad it is only temporary. Once breeding season is over, all my geese (except, of course my special needs darlings) are going onto the horse pasture to run as one big group.

I can understand why people would be rehoming extra pairs/trios this time of year. But it can be a win-win situation because it makes life easier on the seller and it works out well for you!

Be safe out there! It was almost springy here for a while today. Blessed to only have had one momentary snow this year, though my son is complaining about not getting to make a snowman.

Great news! Can't wait to see your new additions! I'm possibly getting something cool this weekend as well, but I'm not saying until I've locked them in for sure.

I've never seen geese mate. Maybe it's better that way. Saw my girl lay an egg once and that was painful enough. Hope your goosie drama is settled soon.

Hope your eggs make it through okay. I've had short power outages that didn't hurt my hatch and power outages that destroyed my hatch. Nothing worse than waking in the middle of the night and running up to my loft to wrap the incubators in blankets until we could get the gennie going. I want to get a solar-powered backup for my bators eventually.

It was a little disturbing. A gander's penis is long, twisty and rather talented to find its way into a goose's vent. I want to see a goose lay an egg. Hopefully once my dewlaps start laying, I may be able to witness that.

I set Quail with my ducks & had no problem, they just hatch earlier

Iain, I must have baking on the mind.... I read "My menagerie includes" as "My meringue (as in meringue cookies) includes"... Good to know after rereading, that you don't put animals such as horses, dogs, cats, geese and ducks into your meringues!
