How's the duckling coming along this morning ducklover?

I hadn't even checked it yet until I saw this. But I just checked and no progress. Lots of movement but no progress. The egg yolk hasn't been absorbed any it doesn't seem. I'm not sure what happened with the hole but I don't think he's all that ready to come out yet. Maybe in another day or so.

Did you put him in a bowl or cup? Hopefully he'll just continue to absorb everything and make his debut when ready.

Yes I put him in a small bowl with a few soft wash cloths. My fingers are crossed that it happens.

If he's moving around and active then I'd say it has a good chance. what about the membrane?

The membrane is good I think. Its clear which is good right? And yes very active, however the egg doesn't move.

You know, I just got to thinking, do you have other eggs in the incubator with this egg? With the egg shell being open, the more likely for the growth of bacteria. It could harm your other eggs, if you have any. If you do, I would keep them separate.

Also, I would attempt to cover the opening with some sort of tape, like scotch. I would make a few strips, one longer than the other, and put sticky sides together in the middle of the longer piece, so the ends of the longer piece can stick to the egg, but the non-sticky area is the part covering the opening. I would do this until the space is covered. I think the more protection the better.

Good Luck! I just had 5 Pekings hatch Thursday-Saturaday. The best thing you can do is just leave them alone and give them time. I don't know about it being a humidity issue....... ducks do have different humidity requirements than chickens, though.

I thought part of the shell was missing? I guess I was looking at the pic wrong.

It is.. just a small part though. about the size of a quarter. I did tape it though just be sure. And i've been checking on him and still moving so I guess it's all good.
