That would be ideal. Right now I'm trying to "master" the duck hatching thing. It's harder than it looks! It might be easier just to sell duck hatching eggs!

Aren't your new baby chicks sizzles/silkies? You should have some very good fuzzy incubators by late spring. I got my 2 silkies and silkie/d'uccle in Nov last year, they have gone broody constantly since May.

I just wish they could hatch out my quail eggs, then I wouldn't even need an incubator since it seems between the 3 of them I always have at least one broody.

Julie why can't they hatch your quail eggs?

Yes the chicks are a sizzle/silkie combo deal. I also have about 20 Cochins in there too. I wonder if a bannie could hatch out a duck egg. Hmmmm. Because they are hard to get to hatch!

I have this barred rock that my BIL gave me.. it doesn't lay, it just collects all the eggs and moves them into a pile and then leaves. It's odd. And I really want to catch her in the action.. But my BIL said that's what she does, and now all my eggs are suddenly being "gathered" into a pile.

Very weird. I think she wants to be a mommy.

Maybe he doesn't like girls.....

Quail eggs are just too little. Even my silkies smash them. I read that would happen, but I am stubborn and stuck a few under one anyway when I got my eggs. Sure enough, the next morning, smushed eggs.

Thanks didn't realize that would happen, will you quail hens or what ever they are called not brood?

I hear quail hens dont usually brood. But sometimes button quail will.... Not sure...

I am beginning to think that may be the case. So I suppose I could count him as a girl and get another drake? I know 2:2 isn't a good ratio for ducks, but if only one of the drakes like girl duckies it's more of a 1:3 ratio? Lol, I'll give him a few more months for his hormones to kick in, and if they don't I'll get him and the girls a boyfriend.

Right now they are just babies, but I plan on making really cute deviled eggs later. I'll sell some adults/chicks, I have a few friends who like to eat quail. Plus they are fun to hatch, and only take 17 days, so not so much waiting.
Not to mention they are cute TINY babies ( I can't imagine how small buttons are, I have coturnix). They zip quick, and POP right out. I was watching, and didn't see any hatch. I wouldn't see any pips, would check back and there'd be a baby running around. I did see one come out, but not zip. I looked just in time to see the egg lid open, a chick come tumbling out, the egg shut, and the baby was already running around.
