Now I've got the Daniel Boon theme song stuck in my head (due to the coon skin hat).

I baited the trap with marshmallows to just catch raccoons, so I wouldn't catch anything else. I used cat food when I caught this one, I was trying to catch cats.

Even more awful because they are cute. Something that adorable shouldn't be that mean and vicious.
This little guy we released right back out. He belongs to the family of coons next door, and wasn't caught anywhere near my chickens. There was a stray cat getting into our recycling bin, so I had the trap set up to catch and scare it, hoping it would go back home. I caught this little one instead, and he was a cutie. Until I got close and he started growling and biting and foaming at the mouth. Mean little things!
Edited because I forgot to put the picture in

Foaming at the mouth can mean rabies, we had a bad out break of rabies here a couple years ago just about wiped out the coon population, but they are making a comeback now.

they are cute but very aggressive.

I think it was just because it was August and hot. I'd been gone all day and couldn't check the trap until I got back, he'd long spilled the little water dish I had in there. When I called to report the goopy eyed one I'd caught they told me there have been some outbreaks of distemper in raccoons and skunks lately in the area, but nothing about rabies. If I hear of any of that in the area next door coon family will go bye bye too.

Qj, thats a adorable little duckie! Wrap him up and send him him here!

Pretty swollen right now, but just woke up to. Have an ice pack on it.
Thankful the teens are out of town and not here to tease me LOL
I do go back to work tonight though

I like ground hogs, we had a mama and baby ground hogs living around here one year and those babies were so cute, but there was rabies in them too but not like the coons, even had some cows with rabies in another county not too far away. I had never heard of cows getting rabies. I want some baby ducklings so bad, just don't have room for any.

I'm hoping when my dh gets his tractor and starts to build the barn that he'll think kindly of me and give me some extra space so I can have more animals. Course I never sell anything so I'd have to find a way to feed everyone. Doesn't anyone else have a hard time parting with their ducks and chicks? I never feel anyone can take care of them the way I do,

If my duck eggs hatch I can't keep them...but already have a home lined up for one or two.,a neighbor wants them. He raises turkeys and then takes them of to his parents cabin for fall food(they aren't penned but they do put food out every day). He wants pet ducks though

Thats good that you can find a good home for them, sorry your eye is still swollen, a couple years ago my gander got ahold of my upper lip and bit the tar out of me, it was swollen and bloody for a long time, looked just like someone punched me in the mouth. It's hard to explain how something like that can happen, and most people look at you after you tell them like you've lost your mind.
