ok need to rant

I have been waiting for more eggs

but getting ready for Christmas Have been busy

I asked my 15 year old son to please check for me

1 or two eggs he brought it a day ok it is winter


well the goat broke into my pens AGAIN

I go out Yest to fix it
and see how much he ate only some corn

I feed and water everybody My way

look in and there where lots of eggs in everybodys pens

he I thought they had slowed down nope lots of eggs


they where outside for a few days can I still hatch them ???
or should I start collecting them this week

I want them to hatch on a week end so I can be home
chicks take 21 days

so here I go again

Same thing happened to me last fall with the ducks. I wasn't looking for eggs because Mallards are spring layers... but I happened to go out one day, and saw an egg in the middle of the pen. After snooping around a little more I found a nest of 19 eggs in one corner, covered up with leaves. All but 2 were viable.

So bring those in and set them when it falls on a weekend!

I'm lost.
miss broody chicken has been sitting on a duck egg for I don't know how long. I honestly didn't think they were fertile and just stuck it under her so she had something to take care of.
Its fertile. Its been growing 2,3 weeks?
I gave in to my curiosity this morning and candled it again when momma chicken was off eating. Half the egg looks like air cell and the bottom is dark. There's definitely a living critter in there, it was moving, a lot. It was moving its bill(at least I think it was based on shape an size) and head very far into the air cell, like halfway into it. Is this normal/ok. Or did I break it some how?
