I sure hope its a hen. Then you can get two drakes! (so you can have two seperate trios, or just one drake) but if you get two drakes you can order them from metzers!(they can send as low as TWO ducklings!)

That's not a bad idea you have there. I didnt' know they could set so few. I'm hoping to get one with some chicks in the spring. We'll see though. There have been a few for sale around here for sale on craigslist, but I want to be sure it's full blooded mallard.

Yeah, I hate when people sell mutts as purebreds. Nothing wrong with selling mutts, just dont sell them as purebreds. Some one around here was selling a magpie drake, but it wasnt a magpie, it looks like a rouen magpie cross

Exactly, I can't have that. I really want to work on these Mallards.

Well, I found everyone but my EE hen. She might still be somewhere hiding, I haven't found any of her feathers. That hawk made me so freaking mad

. He just hopped up in a tree 10 ft away when I went out there, and then hopped from tree to tree in our yard and the neighbors. Took me an hour to get him to leave so I could find everyone. My silkies, a BO, and the 2 surviving ducks were in the coop. My leghorn and rir were in a brush pile right next to the hawk and duck. They were terrified, and came out and stayed under my feet while I was chasing the hawk away. I walked them to the coop and they ran in. The rooster came running in and I was leaving the coop. Then I realized everyone else was nowhere to be seen, but I had to come inside and check on my kids. I went back out there 10 minutes later and my turkey was trying to get into the run, with 5 of the missing pullets behind her. I put them up, and was closing the gate to the chicken yard when a missing cochin mix came tunning from somewhere and came in. Now all I'm missing is my EE. I'm pretty upset, and there's not much I can do. They have a 10 x 20 covered run, but that's mostly so they have a snow/rain free spot to play. I don't think it'd be fair to keep everyone locked in there all the time. Their yard is huge, like 30 x 55, too big for me to cover. And I still like to let them out in the yard, which is a little less than 2 acres. So now i don't know what to do now. The hawk knows there's an easy meal here, but I don't want my poor birds to be locked up all the time. And I think technically, even chasing that stupid bird out of my yard was probably illegal, there isn't anything you are allowed to do to hawks, even if they are killing your pets.

Hopefully one of the 2 babies in the incubator are from her.
