I hope shes ok!

I sure hope one of those eggs in there are hers! Are the other two ducks ok?!

Yes. I just went and checked everyone out. My drake looks like he peeled a piece of his bill off, probably ran into something getting away. That was the only damage I could see. Everyone's pretty shaken. They are all huddled in the coop. When a dog chased them around a few months ago one of the girls didn't come back until dusk, so I'm still pretty hopeful my EE (ironically named chickenhawk), will come back.

The 21st is my youngest's first birthday. I don't have any chicken eggs I want to set, but I'll set some quail a few days after you (18 days incubation) and hatch them with you. I use a lg still air, dry hatch for chicks set to 101. I add a sponge at lockdown at let the humidity get up to around 70%.

Julie i just read about your duck being taken by the hawk, or did you just think it got taken since you said the only one missing is youer EE? I hope she is okay and I read it right. This time of year hawks have the advantage because there is no leaves on the trees for cover.

The hawk got my khaki duck. It was eating her when I walked out and saw them. I've found and checked over everyone else except my EE, who I hope is still in hiding somewhere. At least I got everyone peas last night, so they had their favorite treat before she passed.

Well, despite the tragedies on this forum lately, I can add some good news.

I just got off the phone with my BIL, the one that's giving me his coop. (Because they're moving to Arkansas.) He has one chicken left in there too that's laying. And my Brother is giving me his 2 layers as well, cuz he's tired of messing with them. So I'm up to 3 layers now.

Anyway, the dimensions of the coop are 8x8x8. It's totally covered and has a house with a ramp going up into it. That's a pretty big coop for my yard. (I don't want to draw attention to myself being in the city and all.)

So....

My dad said I could put the coop on his farm and put the chickens out there. This means that I have NO LIMIT to what I can hatch. As long as I can keep his chicken killing dog away from them. I'm pretty excited that my dad agreed to this. I don't want to cause him more work. He has enough to do. (He raises cattle.) I was going to put it out there anyway

But it's nice to have his permission. LMBO!

I just told him "Mom said I could".

Of course this means a 20 minute drive for me everyday to gather eggs and feed and what-not, but the master plan was to purchase a house closer to them... so hopefully that will be happening at some point soon.

Also, my husband gave his 2 week notice today at work, and the owner told him to just make today his last day. So I get the hubby at home until Jan 3rd, when he starts his new job. Woo Hoo! I have started my honey do list..

I think the chocolate only come in bantam right now. Look for Chookschicks, she lives in lawrence and has them I think. Hopefully the weather stays nice and hubby can start getting your coop ready.

I am so sorry Julie, I just went and closed the gate so mine are now closed in also. they have a big fenced in area but they can't get to the outside unprotected part. Makes me so nervious when i read about someones ducks or chickens getting snatched. I hope you find your EE, hopefully it's just hiding out right now. again so sorry

How awesome is that QJ and more chickens too. Sounds like a real nice setup.
