well that was a waste of time money and effort
so last night i had quite the headace and didnt want to leave my warm bed.. so i called my husband and told him to lock up the chickens when he got home... no problem right.... WRONG!!!
so i come out to warm up the truck brownie my buff orphington and liberty my new EE roo where still out side. the coop door was shut but the duck door wasnt.....
so i freek out and notice no black or blue orphingtons around Jett always followed me around walk around there is blue wings down shivering with frost on top of her.. UGH!!!!!
no sign of jett or ebony..
so out of 5 orphingtons i have one with hypothermia one with a broken wing one to ashes and two missing
I GIVE UP!!!!!
im not getting anymore chickens until next spring..
im so angry and sad!!
i was really getting attatched i never try to get attached!!

It's freezing here, but just a tiny bit of snow. There's enough that the chickens haven't came out of the coop or run in 2 days though.

haha our chickens like the snow.
for some odd reason.
well the girls do . the boys on the otehr hand stay inside.
and i have no clue where the guineas disappear 2 durring the day .

the ducks arent exactly thrilled about the snow.
they take turns sitting in the water so it doesn't freeze (they made the mistake of leaving it alone the first cold day and it froze solid. now they dont take chances with it)

and the chicken with babies that is penned up. they love the snow. i actually give them snowballs because the eat it off your boots when you go in there

woah.
glad its not that cold here today .
lastnight it was down to 15.
but i think today its stayed around 30.
i hate the cold!!!!

Evelle- Me too.

QJ- They are all usually within 1-2 degrees, although the stupid digital one goes way off sometimes.
CG- I know right. My quail can't hide their eggs since they're penned, but if I don't get them within an hour they're eggsicles. I usually get the other birds eggs in time, but sometimes they like to wait until it's dark out and then by morning I have a mess.

But, on the bright side I found someone who'll sell me my pair of mandarins.

He said they start to lay in March and once they're big enough to sex he'll help me out with getting a pair. I wish it would warm up so I can get to work on my aviary/pen. I think I'm going to take the chickens covered run away from them and make it into an aviary for my calls/mandies. They have a huge yard anyway, and I'll just make them a covered porch and some little huts or something.

Same here! I need to gather my little egg from my Australorp earlier. It's been frozen and split in 2 for the last 2 days. I guess she lays earlier than 9am!

Mandarins have an extra chromosome or something so they can't interbreed with other ducks.
