Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Miss Lydia!!!!!! Where have you been? We missed you!
SM- pinioning is done when little, and doesn't hurt them. If you own non native/domestic wild birds they must be pinioned, toe punched, or something else that I can't remember to identify them as domestic. I don't really like pinioning or wing clipping, it makes the bird a sitting duck for predators. Small ducks like mandies especially are pretty vulnerable, a hawk, fox, cat, etc could easily carry one off.
I do clip my quails wings so I can catch them if one gets out, but they are in a covered enclosed predator proof pen.

Chukars are a gamebird, and are used to eat, for eggs, and for bird dog training

& The lady actually bought 4 chicks instead for $55 bucks

It is slowly turning into a business (which was my original intention) of farm raised happy healthy show quality chicks n birds!
JZ, Ok, showing my poultry ignorance...but what are Chuckars and what are they for? That is awesome! So, is this a business for you?

They are doing great!! They are all so active in there! Can't wait to get them out!! Well, number 11 made it safely into the world! I did help him get his shell open a bit. He is a bit more tired than the others, but he is sitting up and trying to move around! Like I said number 12 died in the shell recently. I am so amazed at the success rate of this hatch! The only thing I can think of? I prayed for them everyday! ;)

I will get more pics in a bit. Gotta feed the kids some dinner. Doesn't usually go well if we skip this little activity! :)

How are the babies Becky?
