Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Good morning, hatching friends. :)

Today is day 21, and 11 of 12 eggs are rocking now. Since I did not see any internal pips yesterday afternoon I kept humidity at 50%, but I stopped turning them. I am thinking it will be another 3-4 days before they hatch. I may try to candle again this morning. This is exciting stuff!!

Good morning all!
Me and QJ are in the kansas city area if you want to check out CL here, Jaz. I check it quite a bit and haven't seen many eggs yet.

Good morning iain. I think your eggs will probably come a day or 2 early at least, since they are rocking so early. Still a long wait, but at least you know they are full of energy and on their way!

It IS eggciting! Hubby captured the first rocking on video. He plans to film pieces of each stage of hatching, then make a short movie to upload. Plus, he spent ALL day studying and working on his brooder. I think he is the most excited of all of us. :)

I candled a few of the eggs today. They are pressing their beaks against the membrane wall and are as energetic as ever! They are super charged eggs.

Congrats Iain, don't panic if there are breaks in the activity. They can take over 24 hours from pip to zip. Some will go quickly, some rest more than others. 36 hours of no progress after external pips has me checking on them more frequently.

Good morning, Shellie! Thanks for holding my hand through these final days. Talk about high drama! Whew, it is exhausting. lol I am sure I'll have tons of questions over the next week. Glad you are reading this thread. :D

Here's a random question I am hoping you can answer. What is shelf life on duckling bagged food? I bought a small bag as part of hubby's xmas present package. It has been stored inside and bag has not been opened. Don't want to take any chances with babies and accidentally feed them bad food.

If feed is stored in its bag, not exposed to extreme hot and cold and humidity it "should" be ok. Open it, look at it for grey/white signs of mold. Smell it, if it smells rancid or off don't use it.

We turn over feed every two weeks and never have problems with it going bad in the bags before we open and dump into the trashcans we use for storage. I do add DE to bottom of each can and dust the tops when a new bag is added and then stir it up. So far so good and we live right on the coast with lots of humidity.

I figured it was like judging horse grain... but better to ask and be safe, than assume and be sorry. :)

GM, QJ. :) How's your new boy doing??
