Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Out of 17 WH eggs, I have no babies, 5 German eggs, only one beautiful baby that I wish I never sold, 4 goose eggs, ALL DEAD!! 5 Perkins, only 1 barely hanging on, 4. Buff/SA, 2 barely hanging on. I HATE THIS.

Celtic, good to know. I was thinking a variety of all of the especially pretty colored eggs, as they would be more unique than white, off-white, or brown eggs. Hubby talked to local farmers market yesterday and got a great response to having a booth there. It starts in 4 months. If I read correctly, it takes average 5-6 months from hatch to laying for both ducks and chickens? If so, he would have to get a couple hens that are already laying, and hatching eggs to increase/improve flock by fall. Does that sound about right? What is a good number of hens for just starting out?

OMG!! That's what happened to me! Thanks Utah.. I'm going to read that whole thing now.

No problem! Like I said before, you sounded like me with my ancona... my first reaction was that seller sold me peking eggs since my little ducky came out solid yellow. But, there is no doubt my ducky is an ancona now with all its spots/patches showing up.

your black and white ducks. Please tell me what they are? I have several ducks, but only a few varieties. I mostly am a duck egg person, so I havn't tried many of the multi purpose ducks. Yours with their dapper black and white feathers are so pretty.

I'm seriously thinking about learning about them. I'd love to start a duck breed with the beauty of the many heritage ducks, but some of the peking traits (large white eggs) so I could have something else to look at. All my ducks are brown or white! LOL. I used to have Cayugas, but not anymore. A neighbor dog relieved me of them several years ago. The owner purchased my starter Khakis for me. (huge sigh)

marty i have call ducks.
the handsome guy in the picture is my blue magpie drake
