Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

so now i just read that these heat bulbs can explode if water touches them.
so what kind do you guys use for your duck?
or so any of you use bulbs?
or do you use what celtic said? a ceramic heat omitter

I use a normal 100W bulb if they get a drop of water the pop but don't explode like the 250W but I have use the 250W for ducks and geese you just have to keep them about 2 feet off them so water will not splash on to the bulb.

This is what brand heat element we use: Zoo Med Ceramic Infrared Heat Emitter

DG hatching eggs for the SA run $4.00 each, I can't send any out until after Easter as we are setting all laid right now.

well if the 250w is prone to explode i will not be using it long atall.

i will switch to a normal bulb and see if it can keep them warm enough .
now this makes me nervous.

I use it and keep their water at the other end of the brooder. Don't give them a big enough dish to swim in. I put in a bigger bowl for them to swim in once a day or so, and shut the light off for 20 minutes or so and let them splash around. Inside I use a regular bulb or blacklight, but outside I use the 250 watt red bulbs. I didn't like the ceramic ones when I had them for my snakes and lizards because I wouldn't notice right away when they went out.

That's all I have to say about that.

CG, they are a lot darker than my other ancona that hatched a few weeks ago, but when they are fluffed up (almost there now), I will take another pic so you can see them looking more like anconas.

I use a 60 Watt. Boring ol' light bulb. But mine are also in my kitchen. It's 72 degrees in here. LOL.

i wish i could have them in the house but between the cat . and grandpa
it would never work .
my cat is obsessed with birds. all but the parrot she leaves him alone.
and grandpa is having a fit that they will even be on the porch .
when they get bigger . but not big enough to go outside i may move them to the barn .
its warm in there bcuz of all the animals.
