Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

celtic mentioned that i should float test the eggs to see if the chicks have died.
if i flloat test them , and the chicks died, they will float right?

if so i am about to do this. that way if they are dead i can get them out of my incubator and i will put my calls in in the morning

i thought if they were dead they would sink
if they where alive they would bob up and down

oh i am excited now!!!!
i wonder what i will get she has blue, black, splash, buff, cockoo, and partrage silkies :)
it will be like xmas
she told me with her orphingtons she almost never gets blue rarely gets blue almost every hatch is 99% lavanders :) im going to get my birds back!!!

CG, with the float test, you are not looking for floating or sinking but movement. If there is movement within the egg (i.e. a live occupant) you will see it as vibrations in the water, or just movement of the egg. Be careful to keep any pipping holes any out of the water if you are trying this with pipped eggs.

Evelle, that's awesome about the Lavenders!

PS. CG, all the eggs should float, live or dead, as they should all have a substantial air cell.

If they do not float then they have not ever really started to develop in the first place.

if that what i am suppose to be looking for 70?

because the eggs floated (ev)

grr this means i need to do it over =/
there are no pip 70

both eggs were fine laastnight .
both trying to internally pip.
and today around the air cell is turnin yellow.
no movement.
no nothing

Yes, you might need to do it again if you were only looking for floating and not movement.

If there is no pip then that makes it easier. Try to be fairly quick with each egg as you are blocking off the air supply when it is in the water. Dry each egg after with paper towels.

have you ever had 1 turn yellow around the air cell ?
where they were trying to pip has turned to just kind of a shadowed spot.
you cant really see how its turned yellow.
but the eggs just don't look normal to me.
they don't feel as warm either.
and on one of them the baby was taking up the ENTIRE egg but now on one side you can see inside the shell again. and i see no veins
