Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

If the remaining eggs are still alive... I'd like to defy mother nature one more time by helping hatch them. But I don't know what to do if not internally pipped??

You shouldn't need to wet the crumble, it causes it to go bad quicker when you do and make more of a mess. They should take to it, remember they don't really need to eat right after hatching. You ca. Use your finger to tap the feed container to draw their attention to it.

The last eggs should be ok since it has been a short time of raised humidity. They had been cooled and air cells allowed to develop so you should be ok.

Speaking of geese, my Africans pushed through a fence today because they wanted the pool in the other yard! Poor ducks looked at me like hey get the bullies put of here.

IF, they are still alive and pushing, but having problems break through you MIGHT be able to pip a tiny hole in the shell and TRY to open the membrane enough so their beaks are clear to breath. It would be a LONG slow process, wetting the membrane with a qtip, working through a tiny hole. The smaller the better so not to dry things out inside more than nessasary.

I have seen a number of people try and help a hatchling, only to fully open an egg, or open it too wide and then the hatchling(s) dry out, can't absorb the yolk and fail to thrive. It's a tough call for sure.

Its Friday though and I will be around most of the evening and I am sure Pete will be as well. They are 5 or 6 hours ahead of me time zone wise. We are eastern standard here so it's 5pm for me, I believe Pete is now 10pm.

So that is what I have to look forward to... pushy clever geese, eh? LOL

Thanks for the info!! I will candle and report for further direction as soon as the last one hatches. It has zipped a third of the shell, so it won't be long.

Next question... since this is the last goosie to hatch... how long would you wait before moving to brooder?
