Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Tossed another egg when candling the anconas... there are quite a few that are super questionable, but I'll be quick to throw away any non-developing eggs by day 5. All of Pidgey's eggs look beautiful. Total eggs to set: 15 ancona & 13 cayuga.

Celtic, should I tell Aurora that 1/3 of her eggs arrived broken?

They are at waist level, so they are easy to clean, also they all have wheels, so I can easily scoot them around to clean around & underneath. They cost $35 to make. They also have hinged lids that I love...

Oh good grief. Tea parties? LMAO!

I love those brooder boxes. How tall are they?

Thanks! I have a secret.... That I have done since day one of incubating ~ But it goes against everything everyone says on here, but it is working great for me.... OH & that 1 Cochin egg left HATCHED !!!!! YEAH 100% LD Hatch! & Jules your 1 egg is still in the bator.... C'mon C'mon !!!

Jaz, that is an impressive hatch rate. Congrats! LOVE the brooder boxes!

Hubby just finished our 2nd pen last night for the older duckies and will set it up in room today when I take them out to swim in tub. Hope they like their new home when they get done swimming.

I recieved 24 eggs packaged the same way from the same seller, and all were intact & ALL ARE ALIVE & VIABLE as of today ALL 24!
They are due to hatch March 2nd ~ LD on the 29th !

& Jules Packaged the exact same way as Craze with the eggs.....

Jules eggs I have hatched 8 babies out of 9 in LD ~ Tossed only a few clears
I ALSO as an Experiment took all Crazes Eggs that did not crack ~ Washed them & set them in the Bator on th 17th.....SO Interested to see if any hatch.

Celtic... you know how we are always talking about how to properly ship eggs? Well.... I had an interesting time opening my packages this morning. Pidgey's eggs were packed in larger box, individually bubble wrapped and them loosely packed in pieces of foam and newspaper. Aurora's eggs were in smaller box, inside egg cartons that were bubble wrapped, with toilet paper on top of eggs.

Pidgey's eggs, all looking perfect:

Aurora's eggs:

I did try to save the one non-broken egg from this carton, because it is a blue egg. I rinsed it in lukewarm water and dried it with a paper towel.
I will be candling these remaining eggs carefully before setting in bator:

By keeping everything in 2' & 4' increments ~ So all lumber purchased only needed to be cut once or everything turned out even with no loss of material ~ because we bought everything in 8'
measurements. So the LUMBER ~ HINGES ~ CHICKEN WIRE ~ BRACKETS ~ WHEELS all came to around 70 ! But we were able to make two.

Love love love those brooders. We need to build a few new ones. $35 is a great cost, how did you keep it so low?

I LOVE they way WHF packs, and I also have great packing from the guy I bought my IA blues from ! Those are the only ways I think I will ship.

Right? So you know what I'm talkin' about then. It's like... packing tape isn't going to save them.. seriously. Ya didn't have to use the whole roll! LOL!

If you really want I can take some more detailed pics, and get the lumber & measurements? OH & the best part was I went to Home Depot..... & they cut it all for me !!! So All we had to do was screw it all together (except the Chicken Wire Lids)

OK, I sent her a pm with a pic of the broken eggs. I have received 7 other sets of eggs (including a set previously from Aurora). Only one egg was badly broken out of all of them combined.
