. I lost every single bird in my first hatch and wouldn't wish that on anyone

I was 10/10 on my first hatch. I thought I was awesome at incubating until the next hatch, where I was 5/60.

. I think I've lost my mind already. I still plan on adding peafowl this year as well

Now I'm wondering about you! You do know that they can fly right over a 15' fence, right?? The ones at the zoo used to end up all over the park down their until they started trimming wings. My moms used to fly up into the trees like the "wild" variety turkeys and roost there! Big black walnuts... It was like 20 feet up. Oh, and I think they are quite loud.

Glad your in Texas!! LOL

That is an excellent hatch rate especially for a first timer!

Marty, make you a deal, if the heating element doesn't come for the new cabinet bator being made I will sell you the two eggs I collected tonight. They are from Sassy and Sampson and the other is from Pandora and Ricky

Sassy- white curly
Sampson - white smooth

Pandora - white curly
Ricky - white curly

Sassy and Pamdora are from Pips&Peeps and carry spots of color. We are waiting for this falls molt to see if they vanish, or if I should move the, to the splash ganders pen next year.

Ricky is solid white, heavy curl and HWF off spring

sampson has pink legs and wide beautifully twisting back and chap feathers, smooth chest and legs.

Hey guys!! Back from shopping... and got some tea lights to try to patch up this egg. Am I supposed to simply drip the hot wax onto the cracks?

CG, I imagine it depends on goose breed, because I'm told that toulouse are nice to ducks, but my biggest african gosling was chasing my ducklings and biting at their legs and feet after only 24 hours together.

QJ, your gooses sound like they are doing great! It took almost 24 hours for mine to go from internal to external pip. Then another 24 hours to hatch.

Bakin!!!! I love your new babies!!! Sorry for the rough hatch. My first hatch was a disaster... and my last ancona hatch I had 12 go into lockdown and only 6 made it. But that is part of what makes the ones that do hatch out so darn special!

. What breed was she? I'm considering adding some Silkies for their broody skills

They are great for that! I used the silkies I used to have (they eventually died of old age) for brooding my ducks, when I first got started on my own. My mom used silkies too. Very sweet little birds, and ya gotta love a furry chicken! Cochins are pretty good setters too.

DG, you should wake up tomorrow to new chicks, or the very least external pips and rocking and Rollin for zipping

Yay! I need a bigger brooder though :lau I just have a 15 gallon aqurium tank for the runner and BEI. I have a 20 gallon that I need to clean out for the chicks.

BTW, I set 15 farm fresh RIR eggs, and only 5 made it to lockdown. Whats up with that? These were the ones that that dude ordered, but backed out. I found a home for them, but the lady wants me to grow them out first. She also bought my 2 extra drakes :D

Kev: give in, and go but a few baby ducks :P
