Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Gauze against the abdomen, vet wrap figure 8 style in place looping around the legs and not trappi g the, so it can move freely. Leave in place for at.east 4-6 hours. Normally they will absorb it and be fine as they strengthen post hatch. Ducks and geese hatch pretty worn out normally. So floppy and weak looking is typical.

What about the veins that are attached to the sac and the egg still?

Will try and check back after while. Need to go work on fencing and dig a hole, a big ole hole actually for the goat. :( very sad day here, this goat belonged to our son who passed away. OK put off what needs to be done long enough, time to get up and move. Sweat and dirt does the sole good.

Break away as much shell as you can to create a flat surface the place the gauze against. Or you can place the duckling into a bowl, flat top of an egg carton. Anything to restrict movement and allow resting in the bator.

Thank goodness for this forum. You ladies prove to be very helpful. If I ever get into a bad situation with my babies, I know where to come for answers.

I want to add one more thing. When I assist a ducky, basically I only chip enough away so it can breathe. Kind of like a canoe. So it can't come out until I say. Most of the time when I have to help I draw it out over the course of 2 days. Just to make sure everything is absorbed. If you can chip enough away to see down in the egg and see how much yolk is left if any, that can give you an idea of how long they have to go too.

I hope that made sense! I'm having an issue with English today. :)

I know this is probably totally different. But I had a cousin who had some of his intestines outside his umbilical area when he was born and they had him on his back so the intestines could slowly work there way back into his little belly. Hopefully this will work here. He doesn't appear to be moving a whole lot so he should rest good.

Can someone take a look at my duck and see what I should do??? http://www.ustream.tv/channel/live-hatch-cam
It has the skin bulge from the sac that was absorbing but it also has what looks like some of it's insides coming out of it....HELP!

Wow, did he hatch on his own? He looks a little early. I'm with Celtic, wrap it up a bit, don't want infection. Keep it moist, and don't let him drag it about, he needs to be still and have time to finish his internal clockwork. I'd leave him on his back, let gravity help him out.

I'm sorry I can't help more, I let my ducks come on their own, and I've never had this. I'm a hands off hatcher. If mine had it, I suppose they just didn't hatch.

We have begun the assist with 2 eggs that have pipped on the wrong end, so that they can at least breathe well.

We are now on Day 28, but only have 6 out of 21 pipped. (And 4 of those are on the wrong end)

Hoping for more pips as the day goes on.

One that we helped a bit to open for breathing is very active, but we are seeing a tiny bit of blood on the edge of the shell. He's been in the bator for about 2 hours, and it seems like a very minimal amount of blood.

I don't know if this is normal, or just from our assistance.
