Hooray for no surgery!![]()
I MUST disagree strongly about helping babies hatch. I had two wrong end pippers that I had to help hatch. They are both strong and healthy. I had a 3rd baby that was badly twisted in egg that we had to help hatch. It came out totally messed up and I was very upset that I hatched it only to die a slow and painful death. But that darn baby righted itself after 24 hours and has not looked back. It too is strong and healthy. None of these babies would have been able to hatch on their own... But they are all now special members of the family with no residual issues.
I think it was Celtic who astutely pointed out.... Doctors will always try and if the patient doesn't make it... That is life. But, we don't sit back and say let nature take its course. We do what we can to save them, and if we are lucky, the rewards are worth the risks of experiencing the worst case scenario.
When I popped into the gas station on my lunch break, there was a pair of mallards playing in a mud puddle in the parking lot. I chased them into the pond on the neighboring property so nobody would run them over.
Funny how big tough men can be such babies about certain things!
Meet my little Twitchy! Despite his battles, he is doing GREAT this morning. The past couple nights when I went to bed I expected him to not make it to morning. He wasn't really able to use his right leg. It was pulled in close to his belly like it had been when he was in the shell. But when I checked on him this morning he was STANDING in the incubator! I almost cried. lol! My hours of feeding him and getting him clean and fluffy has paid off! I put him in the brooder and got a picture to show off.![]()

my little monsters LOVE to go outside.
i have taken them out twice.
i pen the dogs up and just sit in the grass with them.
the baby geese graze and the ducklings walk around with them looking puzzled as to why they would eat that yucky stuff.
then they get frisky and everyone runs around flapping their ""wings" until they get tired and plop down and the geese eat while being lazy .
and whenever they hear a scary noise of see something the geese run to me and tell me about it . they get real close stick their necks out real far and look at me talking softly about the scary thing. while i reassure the,
yesterdays scary monster was the guineas who were a good 30 feet away but still noisy and scary
CG: I'm more interested in my animals than friends too. Friends end up makin you mad at some point. LOL.
I would be perfectly content moving far far away where no one can stop in and visit me. I'll just stay all alone with my poultry and my kids.
There is someone stopping by every day here. Drives me NUTS. Because I stay at home.. I guess they think.. "Oh she'll be home."
Thanks for the call letting me know you're coming.
(eye roll)
I have 3 buffs one rooster and 2 girls they are lovely he is such a gentle giant!Just picked up 3 orpington chickens! Yay! Their sooo cute! The roo is huge! Like a turkey! The hens are so cute, and small. The hens are blue, rooster is black. So excited for eggs!
My DH thinks hes a tough guy, but the only things he can kill for food are fish and bullfrogs. LOL. I told him (We just got married 19 monthes ago) that he wasn't eating one of mine unless he helps dress some. You have to earn the privilage, is my opinion.
I felt the same way about the meat chickens, i made him haul water up the hill if he wanted to eat any because he rufuse to do the butchering part!
PSue- Yes! We need to move.. we are working on that one! Lots to do to get this house ready.
SM: I'd say 10 bucks. Heck, you could even say free to good home if ya wanted.
I bumped my humidity up on my staggered hatch and it didn't seem to affect anything... that's the problem with the staggered hatch. But... nobody has the eggs I want all at the same time. And I'm addicted.. so, ya know.
CG: My husband bought a 3000 dollar drum set when he turned 16. And then bought a 500 van to put them in. So he can relate to you. LMBO!
DG: What up girl!!??
