Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Uh oh, that is beyond my experience... Where is Celtic or QJ? They would know better than me what to do! My fingers are crossed they will show up to advise you.

I had to help one of the ducklings. It had external pipped on it's own, but then turned and blocked off where it pipped. I was afraid it couldn't get any air so I opened it, couldn't see the bill. I had to open it more and more because it was peeping but I couldn't find it's bill anywhere. It had tucked it back under the membrane, I finally found the hole and pulled it's bill back out, and have it back in the incubator resting, looks like she still has a little bit of yolk left. She's a pretty blue pied looking duckling. Since I had to open the incubator for her I candled everyone real quick because it was smelling like there was a bad egg. All the call eggs are still clear so i pulled them. I have 11 EE eggs with good veining, and I can see development starting in 6 of the turkey eggs I think. There are 4 more EE under the broodie too, 2 of which I know are good, the other 2 I can't see yet.

I don't think I'm going to be able to get the little one out. It's tight and when I put water on it I can see big veins with blood running though it.

Wrap it in a damp paper towel to keep the membrane moist, and let it sit another 2-3 hours and check the veins again.

I think I'm going to give it until morning. It still sounds strong and I have it all zipped and the top of the shell completely off. It can breath with out any problems and still has veins with blood in the membrane. I don't want to compromise the other two that have pipped. So hopefully it can make it out alone. What about shrink wrapping will kill it? Just being stuck for so long? (It pipped yesterday morning.)

Do that. don't help until you see no veins. Moisten it up real good. If it can breathe it's fine. Just pipping because it's mad. lol. If the veins are pretty thick, it's probably going to be tmw morning before you can help again.

Just saw this. If the veins are big then so is the yolk. And if it can peep it can breathe. So you're doing exactly what I would.
