Hi Julie I have to know what is an avatar ducklings?????????

I've got external pips! Kind of sad because I'm not keeping any of these, but I still am not sure if I have a boy call so I need to save room. I have someone that wants 6 of them already, so they won't be here long. I want to keep my 2 avatar ducklings too, they think I'm scary and run away, but I think they are pretty. They are scaredy cats though. They came up while I had the babies out and my little magpie ran up to them quacking and the 2 of them ran in terror from a little duckling less than a quarter their size.

Thanks guys! I love the little bugger, I think I'll probably keep Twitchy. The little one has grown on me now that I've allowed myself to get attached. I didn't think it would survive. If I had it in me to do any culling I probably would have with Twitchy. It was in rough shape and I would have never imagined it would have pulled through like this.
I'd keep him too with all the work you put in

I can not and dont cull babies... unless THEY are in pain and then it clasifies as a mercy killing. But adults... NP for food.

What a wonderful image!

Jaz and eyeheart, I got the pic of the Cayuga flock tonight, but I don't know how to get it from email to site on my iPad. I will be home Friday morning, though and will post then. She also said she'd send me a pic of her magpies tomorrow. If anyone is interested, I will post that too.

Us interested in pictures? Who us? Never

The ducklings in my pic by my name(avatar). I need to get new pics of them tomorrow, they turned out really pretty I think.

Here is the duckling I helped. It has about a pea sized yolk, and it looks like there is still a little blood in the membranes, but it didn't bleed at all pulling it as far out as I did. I think he'll be in the brooder by morning.

He's cute. I want to keep him. I almost wish I didn't have chickens so I could just have a bunch of ducks. The kids really like the chickens though, and I have 7 ducks, and may need to get another. Only have 2 big ducks though...

I was walking around with hubby today, and almost stepped on this egg. Anyone have any idea what it is? I candled it and it looked good, so I threw it into the incubator.

I hope it isn't a loch ness monster egg. It's the little spotty one. The big speckled one is a turkey egg.

looks like a quail egg to me

CG: I read somewhere that ventilation is supposed to help. Just see if they drop by tmw and then decide what to do. I would love to see a little call egg in person. My mallard eggs are small though. I'll get a pic if she ever decides to lay again. (I'm thinking she has a nest somewhere in the yard... )

They are much smaller than a chicken egg.
