I'm still catching up too! Us poor Washingtonians always come in at the back end of the convo.

No. But if you've got any dragon eggs my hubby would be pretty happy. Like a lot of somewhat geeky guys, he wants a pet dragon.

I would love to hatch a dragon. But I think those eggs are the size of a car...

10 ducklings. Ancona x cayuga x buff ducks.

Aww. I want hatchlings again! My babies are still less than a week and I already want more!

My daughter would like one too. I am really considering getting her some kind of lizard that eats eggs. Need something to do with my quail eggs when they start laying again.

I got her a bunny when she turned 2 and told her it was a puppy. Took her a few days to find out any different. Why not get her a lizard and tell her it's a baby dragon?

Totally!

One hatched yesterday, 2 are still half in the egg, but the others all hatched pretty much at once. Almost like quail.
2 of the 4 EE eggs under my broody aren't developing, and a silkie has gone broody so I'll be moving at least 8 of the EE eggs under them. Then I'll be down to 4 EE eggs (unless the other silkie starts setting, which wouldn't surprise me at all), 4 duck eggs due wednesday, 8 turkey eggs which I think all 8 may be developing, and 1 who knows what the heck it is egg. I need my calls to start quacking soon, so I can see if I need more of them. If I do, I'll be setting more calls.

What all do you have cooking in yours?

16 Black East Indies
28 Runner
4 Random from my flock (not sure which girls are laying)
2 Mystery Geese

quackrrs: that would freak me out too!!!! I cant stand to see babies in pain... or deformed!

Exactly. As it is, I'm still working on fixing Pocket's legs and that's frustrating enough. I suspect that this may be a common issue with runners since they stand upright. If the legs are even slightly off....

DG, don't forget Sebbies have dietary needs different from other geese. Never feed corn to them for any reason. They do not shed water like ducks and other geese so they need full shelter from the weather. They can over heat, so shade is a must for them. Otherwise enjoy and keep us posted.

So they cant have a pond? :(... thats a no go then :( we were getting them from Amy (HappyMnt) Maybe we will get some other pretty breed.... Thanks Celtic!

Ok here are my babies that hatched last night and today. Some of them kicked off their shells too early so they are in the "Hospital Area". I am keeping their little cords covered with a damp paper towel so they can absorb it before it dries out.

all resting up

First one born, and he is a BUGGER

14 total? What is the brown one? Your "hospital" is like mine... a large tupperware!

I think I saw you said it was a runner that died in the egg? Runners can be crested. Crested x crested = what you saw.

They swim just fine, they can't be left out in rain or have an open shelter. They need protection from the elements and lots of grass and high quality feed to stay in good feather and heathy.

Smooth feathered geese shed water, but the curls on a Sebastopol don't allow water to,roll off their backs. Strong cold winds will chill them faster too since the feathers don't lay flat but rather blow with the wind.

oh. Anything else I need to know?? Didn't know any of that. Now I'm rethinking where to put the sebs, if I get any. Why no corn? I think its an ingredient in some premade fowl mixes, although it is processed first. What do you feed your sebs? Are they OK w/ pond access? They don't get waterlogged (like some ducsk do) and sink, do they? Seriously, I know it sound funny, but I gotta know these things.

CG that picture running towards you is way too cute!
they move too fast for my phone .
its so adorable
abagail likes to be petted.
but amelia is a chicken
she will walk away grazing and all of a sudden look up and come running back flapping her wings if she gets too far away

abagail will wonder off grazing usually with ducks close bhind since they try to keep their distance from me
but amelia sticks close to mom

OK, I don think my mom wants them then. They would be living with our ducks, and the ducks don't have a closed shelter... its open.... :(

Oh well...
