Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Aww, how sweet!

I'd ask local 4h if they know of anywhere to rent one. I believe there are places that will lend them to schools.
How's pocket doing?

Pocket is hanging in there. We're struggling with finding a better way to deal with the funny leg though. I had Pocket bound one way, hubby changed it, I changed it again. It just looks to me like we're making it worse.

Poor Pocket is about half the size of her hatchmates. I'm going out of my way to make sure she eats and drinks enough. I worry that by wrapping the leg, we're making it so she doesn't build any muscle tone. Her legs are so tiny compared to the others.

Because of the way runners stand, it makes things more problematic. I'm getting ready to go give Pocket a therapeutic swim in the sink.

I'm still catching up too! Us poor Washingtonians always come in at the back end of the convo.

Dude, try living on the other side of the freakin' planet.

TLWR - I use an RCOM 20 PRO which is not at the cheap end but which is extremely reliable and can handle considerable temperature and humidity extremes. Whatever the outside temp or humidity, it stays rock solid. So, what about getting a 2nd hand better quality incubator rather than a new, cheap one? The RCOM King Suros are also very very good, and less expensive.

I consider you to be early to the party!

DG pilgrims are known to be calm also. But the geese will need seperate housing from the chickens no matter what the breed. The pilgrims however are a smooth feathered bird so can be housed more like your LF ducks with winter protections.

I don't know any Sebbie owners who live where it snows that dont have a fully enclosed shelter or barn for the,m to get into. They do go out during the day in winter up north, but always have shelter too.

Never jump into a new species or,breed without doing research on the basics. Food, water, shelter after that it's about your property and if you can accommodate the needs and keep them contained and safe.

Hi Quackers. I don't have runners, but w/my babies when I have leg troubles, I leave them unbound, and about 70% of the time, they work it out in a week. I think swimming for her would be an excellent idea. Supports her body weight, and forces her to use her legs in a reasonably duck like fashion. It'll strengthen her up, if she can swim. Good idea.

I did some research on google about sebs, never really said anything about needing extra protection from weather. Glad i have you
