Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Just remember that monitoring weight loss in the goose eggs and air cell development is very important to a successful hatch. I monitored air cells oly last year and didn't have as much success as I am this year with the waterfowl eggs.

Marty, I pull entire racks out of the cabinet to cool the eggs. The Brinsea I just pull the top off of them. I most the egg, set my timer and walk away for 20-30 minutes. Go back and put them all away and close up the bators. It hasn't effected the chicken eggs one bit in the cabinet.

Awesome! I figured the goose eggs would be a bit different. Im much less confident in this arena. I'll probobly set mine on a towel, or maybe balanced on empty chicken hathing trays, and do as you've suggested. I believe I start it at one week, but I've got petes page marked, and have read it a few times. I know the big eggs are a lot thicker and heavier. The sebs seem small, but 20-30 is good for both?

Hope the new lady goat relaxes and sweetens up for you soon. I really miss my goats. I keep working on DH about it! He thinks we should come visit your island and build cages just to hang out there. I would be quite a change from Kansas. (except the heat)

My scale would work, hubby has to fix the cord again. I did pencil the air cell lines on the toulouse eggs, but I just couldn't see them on the sebs or little toulouse eggs. If I can find them when I candle on Monday, I'll mark them then. If he gets the scale fixed, I'll also go ahead and way them. Better a little late than never I suppose.

Hows little man?

I can never see air cells on the Sebbie until a few days in. If I have trouble eggs that need more cooling they come out on their own and lay on a shelf (stainless Steele wire type shelves) next to the bator to cool. Some will be cooled two times a day so this is what works for me.

Tell your DH winter here is the best time visit really. We only average 1-2 weeks of cold, and then it's 40's.

Good morning, hatching friends! It feels so good to be home at last!! I can't believe how much my goslings and baby ducklings grew in only 4 days!! Geez, I feel like I missed out on important baby days. lol

I checked my new cayuga eggs last night.... all 6 have intact air cells and are obviously developing after only 2 days! Very impressive!!! Here is a pic of her stock (as promised):

The pidgey 'stuck to shell' cayuga egg died and so got tossed last night. The final 2 are alive, but they still have a lot of fluid. Will be watching them closely. I also had one ancona that seemed to quit. So, currently I have 10 eggs scheduled for lock down in a few days.

My day 15 eggs: all 6 goosies are doing great, 13 of 14 anconas are also doing great.... and one lonely silver apple is growing strong. Hubby can't wait for that one to hatch.

As for Erin's toulouse eggs, 2 are scrambled, 1 has detached cell but appears hopeful, and 1 has intact cell and appears to be developing.

Last and definitely not least..... my 4 buff dewlap toulouse eggs will be here tomorrow!

Ok, let's see if I can remember everything..

Julie: How hard was it to get the pee pee to come out? I'm serious. I really want to figure this vent sexing out. Right now I think I'm too careful not to hurt them.

SM: I'm just super excited about your Sebbie egg!!

Um... Oh- Poor little Pocket. What a sweetie. I bet swimming really helps that.

Gosh there was something else..

I'm getting ready to snap a few pics of my girls/boys. I haven't done that in awhile.

Oh I remember, Was it Marty and Jazz that do the heirloom seed thing? What are heirloom seeds exactly? I just got a catalog to some company and was curious. Is it just seeds that have been passed down through the generations?
Not sure I need one more project... but ya know.. it's interesting.
