Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Not if you do it quickly.
The first time I hatched anything I didn't have an incubator. I had a broody hatch her chicks and leave 2 eggs behind. I used a styrofoam minnow bucket, thermometer/hydrometer, and a heat lamp and made a quick hatcher. I dropped/smashed one of the eggs carrying it in (oops! felt so awful, I had to help it, but the chick ended up making it) but the other hatched fine. I used plastic wrap over part of the top to hold in some humidity and had a fan going near it, but not directly pointed at it.

I love that someone else had a makeshift incubator that worked!! That gives me new hope:) I really want these little guys to hatch. I am already in love with them:)

Sorry I have been gone so long, been busy with hatches and yard work and everything else. Hopefully this will make up for me being gone so long. I put dots on their heads when I was vent checking so I would know which ones were which. 7 gilrls and 1 boy!!

she hated these babies being with her.

I have 8 baby Pekins, 10 baby Crelo chickens, and my 3 of my 3 week old Silkies all sharing the front porch together. The Silkies think they are the boss. They let this one little Crelo hang with them otherwise they make sure that the rest know that they are the bosses of the home. The ducks just look at them and try to peck the Silkies furry feet. They are so funny to watch. I am bringing home a big mirror from the barn today to put in there with them and see what they do.

well
still no change.
no noise that i can hear.
if noone ext pips within the next hours i am going to candle to make sure everyone is ok.
((no lectures!))

For awhile anyways. I have a bunch of Pekin and Runners in one incubator that should hatch in about a week and then all of the Pekins, runners and most of the chickens will be leaving.

Love all your babies SM!

I had a dream last night about Ameilia. It was something you posted. So there are 2 weirdnesses here.
#1. Keep an eye on Ameilia. And
#2. Why am I dreaming about BYC?

When we first moved here several years ago, my mom brought me some fresh black australorp eggs to eat. My elder DD was 2, so I made a styrofoam cooler into an incubator with a 25 watt bulb, two thermometers, and a bunch of holes with duct tape covers I opened and closed as needed. We put all 12 eggs in, and hatched out only 4 chicks, but Ruth was so happy and proud.

I bought the (now older) hova w/fan and turners after that, and we've been using it every since. It was way more fun doing it for my own and my daughters happiness than it had been turning eggs for my mom in the big aluminum incubator.

Now I'm a hatch addict. I am powerless over the hatching urge and my life is occasionally unmanagable. Do I need a 12 step group??
