The duck hen will start producing special milk from the milk producing gland, located above her tail.

No, you need to buy duckling food.

Sorry, couldn't resist that one. I know you mean will the duck hen forage for food for the ducklings.

I seriously just laughed out loud. Oh my gosh I still am.

Ok I'm done.

That's not a stupid question. I've never thought of that. Miss Lydia would be the perfect one to answer that with all her broodys and all.

ETA: Nevermind 70's back. She'll know. She raises chicken ducks.

Yes, that is the case, I have a duckling being raised by a chicken, aka a chicken duckling, aka a chuckling. With Chicken (the chicken duckling) - when the hen (i.e. the actual chicken) finds food for him, he ignores her completely. I think that ducklings are expected to find their own food, although they will copy what their mother is doing.

So you will need to get duckling food. Put it low, where they can find it. I use the ripply bit of an egg carton as a food container when they are very little.

we have ducks now can start a dairy how many ducks does it take for a quart LOL

That would be perfect, anything close in size for such a short time ought to do it. Go look around, maybe you can find another woodcock egg!!! You have me wanting to find some now.

You know, when I went I was joking around with hubby the only reason I went was to find turkey eggs (we were mushroom hunting). I had long since given up on either and we were heading back up the tracks to the car when I noticed something roll away a little from where hubby stepped. I looked around in the tree and in the grass but couldn't figure out where it came from. So, of course I had to bring it home, couldn't leave the poor baby out in the woods all alone.
Hubby wants to go mushroom hunting tomorrow. After all the ones we found in our backyard...
..maybe I should bring an egg carton or some bubblewrap.
