Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

When did these hatch? I don't remember these.

No way! We're twins. Mine is 8 (McKulla) and she is in Love with the chickens/ducks. She wants to show at the fair really bad. The other 2 humans are too young. (3 and 1)

I quoted the wrong part. I think you are thinking of nigerian dwarfs marty. Those are what I want.

Kinders would be a good goat for you then. Darf goats have very small teets to milk with.
Kinders are nice goats too. They aren't very common around here though.

I always knew we were birds of a feather, all flocking togather here every day! LOL.

I wish we had another little human. (sigh) I have terrable pregnancies, and worse, genetic heart diesease runs in our families, so we've lost 3 pregnancies in the third trimestor. After Julia, I just said I was done, because i just couldn't take the worry of how it would end anymore. I wanted to stop on a high note.

x2. Well, not right now with the 2 little ones, but I would have liked another later. I had one miscarraige, lost one daughter after birth, and the other 3 were early and 2 had to spend time in the hospital for various reasons. Couldn't take the chance of losing another, and I'm happy with my girls. Don't really want a boy anyway, and probably would have had one of them next.

DG, if you are seeing beginning blue stains on side of egg of babies that are supposed to be internally pipping, then they are not positioned properly and most likely trying to pip where you are seeing stain. I knew Wrong Way was not positioned right and watched carefully. When I saw the staining, that is where I pipped the egg and found its beak and then proceeded to hatch him. It took over 36 hours before he was out of shell. It was REALLY hard and I got VERY lucky.

Yes, Nigerian Dwarfs!! We should BOTH get them, then trade males (or share a male) for our nannies! I used to do that when i still had my lamancha. We'd get a male togather, and take turns either having him Sept and Oct or Nov and Dec, then we'd sell him. Although, you can also "lease" males, or AI, which I'd like to learn.

I miss my milk goats.

Thanks everybody.....the vet just left. He couldn't suture the area, of course, but it's cut really, really deep. Bad thing is my horse did this 3 months ago in the same spot and I had finally got it healed up, but I didn't have the bleeding issue. Vet wrapped it tight, tight, tight...there was a vessel spurting blood once he got it cleaned up. Vet says he got down into the cartiladge and coronary band, and will probably develop arthritis in a couple of years. He's only 5 this spring! He took down the whole bottom rung of barbed wire, and there is a blood trail on it a good 15 feet long on it so he was hung up good.
I'm just very, very depressed. I hand raised this horse from the age of 6 weeks old, he was an orphan that almost died.

A friend of mine had her stallion try to rip his hoof off in a barbed wire fence..... he made a total recovery and never had arthritis. We got a gelding a few years ago that had old scars on his front feet from doing the same thing when he was young and he was 22 and going strong. He was very tender footed and couldn't be rode on rocks without shoes, but that had nothing to do with his injury. Keep a positive outlook because you would be amazed at what kind of injuries horses can come back from.

You guys and your horses are reminding me of a story. (imagine that.)

My aunt had Tennessee Walkers when I was a kid. And one day she saw her son (my cousin) come inside kinda acting weird.. and walk back out with the gun. So she of course said.. "Woah.. what's going on?" Well, her horse had gotten up in his feed trough and fallen over onto a fence post and was basically shish-ka-bobbed on it. Still alive. My cousin and Uncle had gone out and found it and were going to "take care of it" and THEN tell her. They didn't want her to see her horse that way.
But when she found out what was going on, she ran out there and MADE them call the vet. Well, the vet of course said.. there is absolutely nothing I can do for this horse. It was obviously in a lot of pain and he suggested they put her down. (duh).

My aunt is still traumatized by seeing that. He was an AMAZING horse.

This reminds me of our ex- barrel horse. She was a nut, but we had a little stallion that ran her up on the fence and she had a T- Post skewered through her chest. The vet had to cut the flesh to get her off the post and that mare made a full recovery. Scarlet oil does wonders for scars and she had just a tiny scar. Again another amazing recovery.

I used to have Nubians, and Sanaans, as a teenager. Here, I don't have much room for them, so I did have a lovely laMancha doe, but she had a bad habit of standing on her roof. She got sturck by lightening there.

I've read about the dwarfs or whatever they are, that only give about 1 qt to 1.5 qts per day. I want to try those. (besides, I don't make near as much cheese as I used to, but I would mind being a speciality goat cheese and organic duck egg producer.)

I think your talking about Nigerian Dwarfs. They do have smaller teats, but if you cross them onto standard dairy does you get Minis and they often have much bigger teats than the Dwarfs. We used a Nigi this year with our standard does and have some cute little doelings that we are retaining for next year. We just use our goats for milk, we raise bottle calves on the goat milk and then put the calves in the freezer when they get big enough for processing. We are big on the beef, but I could never eat a goat. I've made cheese from them also. I'm planning to take up goat milk soap making soon.

Purple eggs, = dead babies right?? Cause i have 2 purple eggs.

Float test them for sure, but more than likely they are gonners.

Couple of things..

1. Someone please talk me out of ordering a pizza for dinner.

2. Those who breed their ducks.. I need suggestions for separating mine. How do you manage pool time?

3. I'm ordering a pizza for dinner.

Well, they are purple ALL over, I couldn't resist (I'm sorry, beat me up, i deserve it!) So i candled them, and they moved around like a dead body, smelled horrid, were purple ALL over, never interally pipped, and when i candled them, the shell in the air sac was yellow. These 2 also stopped moving around in the egg 2 days before lockdown. So i'm asuming they are gonners?? They smell horrid!!! EKK!
