We never have kittens, all of our cats (and dogs) are spayed / neutered.

lol.
she loves to play hide the babies in a hard to get to spot!!
but then shes all happy when you find them.
both of our male cats are fixed, but the girls well...
i only have 2 females tho. the other is inside and will be fixed soon

I'd call a low honk a quack. Mine are 8 weeks-ish and 1 female (the him/her) has been quacking for over a week, 1 white I heard quack yesterday, and the other white I haven't heard yet.

But now that I think about it.. that white one did have a funny sound like you say before she quacked.

I would describe it as a nasaly sound. Or like, ya know when old men blow their noses real loud? Like that.

That is a very good way to describe it. I wonder why Twist was clearly quacking at 3 weeks, and Squeak is just now going through major voice changes?

Breed maybe? I remember my mallard Beaker just one day looked at me and said, "Quack!". But then the Apple was like the old man blowing the nose thing.. and THEN quack. I happen to think the mallards are faster at quacking and getting feathers... etc. But then again, they are smaller and "wild".

I need to look for a drake feather on my boy Apple. And then remember when it happens for next time.

That would be so flippin' cool if Squeak turned out to be a girl!! Then, I could keep 1 boy from the next set for Twist and Squeak, and then the girls for Caboose.

My mixed girls were quacking very clearly at 3 weeks, but their daddy didn't get his drake feather until 7 months. My calls have been a lot slower at quacking but I have a drake with a drake feather at 7 weeks. I think it's a breed/individual duck thing too.

Yes... Twist, Squeak and Caboose are my cayugas.

Oh and Marty, cayugas can fly?? That is AWESOME!!! That makes them one hair safer from predators once I allow them to start free ranging by day.
