Good morning all! I want your opinions about this little guy. He's my Ancona that was turned backwards in the egg and I hatched him from beginning to end. Have any of you ever had a duckling with a bill squished sideways like this? I worry about him, because his breathing seems to be a little affected by his deformity. I can hear a wheezing/whistling noise as he breathes. He seems OK other than that, though. He is active and eats and drinks fine. He is the smallest of the bunch, but he doesn't act sickly. What do you think? Will his bill straighten out at all as he grows? My daughter named him Lucky and he is the sweetest little guy. We're going to be so sad if we end up losing him. He will be 2 weeks old this Sunday.

Christine, I don't know about its beak, but it's good that it is eating/drinking and not acting sickly. It looks just like my "pick of the clutch" from my last hatch of Aurora Spring's anconas. He is now just over 6 weeks old and getting the coolest coloring!!!

I'm so excited to see how their colors end up! Some of them are obviously black or chocolate, but lots of them I'm not sure. I'm glad I have something to look forward to with their growing up, because I sure love the tiny little duckling phase. My daughter stayed at her grandparents for 3 days and didn't believe me about how much they'd grown until she got home and saw with her own eyes.

Deformity's happen in all animals, birds, etc, this one appears to be a survivable deformity. I say if he's growing, that means he's not having trouble there, which is pretty important.

My assisted hatch duck is also named lucky, and I guess he's two weeks old today. Maybe I'll go take a pic for Iain, who was up that night also being a hatch mama.
