Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I understand how you feel. I felt the same way when I lost Molly. Just try to not beat yourself up

Thanks. I'm just so mad at myself. I should have... done something. Don't know what. lol. checked on them a little sooner.

I hate that.

Happy Easter everyone today would be a great day to find eggs on the ground and fill a bator

Lol

Julie, it is an EXCELLENT idea to have a review section on hatching eggs!! How do we go about requesting one??

I don't think BYC would let us, but it would be great if they did.

the 8 roudy babies out of shell. sorry hard to get a pic every one is piling up .

the 7 beautiful babies still in their shells

OH, and there was some yellow water stuff, but I poured it out. Not yolk, just like moisture stuff.

That's what was in my EE eggs that made it to lockdown and didn't hatch.

My Wild Gosling Canadian Gander crossed with a Toulouse/Chinese Momma

Cute! I think my mystery goose is a canada goose. Most of her geese lay in their doghouses, the egg was by the pond. Guess I'll know for sure if/when it hatches. Are canada/domestic hybrids fertile?

Ok back from the farm. I'll post some pics but it's NOT DONE. It doesn't look pretty yet.. so use your imagination.

We basically just almost finished the framing for the wire. I need to get 4 more 2x4's and we'll be good. This took ALL day with the digging of the posts and all that jazz.

Ok, now to the right of this is another 8 feet I can utilize that I will eventually be making breeding pens that go into the run.. (somehow..).. LOL!!

And I still have to paint and plant flowers and stuff.. so it looks ugly right now.

Oh right now.. it measures, 11.5ft x 16.5 ft. How many chickens you think can fit comfortably? I have a number in my head and want to see if I'm off.

Great job!
I think if they are happily foraging, I'd just offer them food when you lock them up at night. Eating it is optional, of course. Most ducks (not pekings really) can do a lot of self feeding spring, summer, and fall.

Mine only eat at night when they go to bed. They find their own food during the day.

Silver passed this afternoon

Sorry about silver.

Just walk away! Go have a beergarita !

Love your advice Jaz!

Gosh loves.. I think the first one looks like a blood pooling ring. The second looks like a pip. Can you candle that first one? It's so hard to guess with a pick. .. or at all for that matter.

I did candle it about 2 hours ago. It was still moving around in the shell and I can still see quite a few veins.

Guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

3/4 of the babies look like this. which should be grey.
i have a few blue. 1 black bibbed.
and there are 2 in the bator that im not sure what they are.

one may have leg issues (still in bator in a cup)
he has his legs under him but he flips himself over constantly.

only 2 still in their eggs now, 1 semi attached to his egg.

these guys are noisy,

10 babies in the brooder,
i switched duckie "moms" now tho to a slightly bigger duck that was easier to get under,

riley will not leave their side, he is all worried about them.

Too cute, can't wait for mine to hatch.

I just lost a Saxony. Darn it. It was runty. My favorite one. It drowned in the pool. Somehow it got in there and couldn't get out. I had just checked on them probably 20 minutes earlier. So bummed.

And then I checked on my new Silver laced rooster out in the pen. I introduced them today. And one of the hens has pecked him and he's got blood on his comb. Is that normal?

Sorry about the saxony. Chickens are jerks, and can take forever to introduce.

Ok, all caught up.
I can't get good pics of the poults because someone is always sticking their face in the camera, lol.

This is the one who can't walk right. I'm going to make bandaid shoes and see if that helps. Anyone have any other ideas?

This goose is completely upside down in the egg. I see a foot and the yolk sac where the beak should be. So I went a little further... I still can't find a beak. But it started moving more. There is blood yet to absorb but not too too much and the yolk is about the size of.. oh- a nickel. Maybe a little bit bigger.

thoughts anyone? Should I continue looking for the beak here in about 30 mins? I'm letting it warm up again right now.

Also.. this egg's outter membrane is super thick. There are 5 layers to the internal membrane. (yes, I counted.)

It was not shrinkwrapped, but the air sac membrane thingy was compressing it. So the movement I saw was it's feet kicking up.

Julie's back!

I use a tiny rubber band and it gives it some leeway. I was out of bandaides at the time. LOL I'm always out of bandaides with all these imaginary human owies.
