Hello friends!

Only one sebbie egg lett in a bator, so naturally I'm bidding on some more eggs on ebay. Hope they get here quick. Warm as it is, I plan to just set them, little end down in the bator for 24 hours as soon as they arrive. Never know what temp they may be at internally. Its over in about 15 minutes. I'll let you know if I win. Going to build some mobile ext. brooders with poutry wire to keep the waterbabies outside more. You know how they smell, and man I don't even want to talk about the flies they attract.

I'm now the proud mama to one sweet little silkie duckling! Finally! 2 for 12!

I quickly candled one of the birthday silkie eggs last night and it's got spidering! I'm going to candle tonight once I set the lockdown eggs in the hatcher.

My head feels like it's going to explode, but trying to stay upright so hubby can get the new fuel pump installed on the riding mower. Our yard's looking kinda rednecky at the moment!

We just got a shipment of egg cartons. Then I did the math. They should last about two months!

haha, actually I'm not that good. I could be better if everyone on my darn team would pass me the ball. I can shoot very well, but everyone thinks their better, and even say it to my face. So I never got the ball this year... I did once, but one of MY OWN TEAM MATES stole it from me... I was pretty PO.... Thanks Goin!

They were all intact (except one was cracked) So 22 ... Doesn't mean they aren't WAY old !! But I am setting them overnight ~ pointy side down... in an egg crate on top of the Master Bator & will put them in the Btor in the morning.... So in a week I will candle or if I smell something funky

Just for an experiment really. I have NEVER set this old of eggs before

How old would that make them?

I just set my 2nd bator with eggs that I found that I figure are at least 15 days old, may even be 20 days old. I had noticed that 2 hens weren't laying any more. HA wrong!!! I found her nest and its even been raining cats and dogs the last 8 days!!! I'm gonna try any way. Good luck Jazmineszoo keep us posted how they do.

Woke up to a power outage, so we ran outside to get the gennie going...

Of course, power comes back on right about the time we run the extension cord up to the bator/brooding room. Hopefully no damage was done to the eggs I just locked down and all the eggs in my bators.

My little runner duckling, however, didn't survive. I doubt it was from such a short time without a heat lamp, but the little one was weak from the beginning. Now I have a very lonely silkie duckling.

I was with little runner when it took its last breath. It vomited up some dark, bubbly stuff and died. I think I had fluid in its lungs from hatching.

Oh no!! I would agree with fluid in the lungs. I've had them do that to me.

DG, sorry you didn't have a good time at your game. I am not a fan of organized sports myself, although it is important to learn how to work on a team. Glad you have sweet buff babies to return home to.

Jaz, don't know about other types of bird eggs, but I had a trio of goose eggs get lost in the mail for 10 days. I set them anyway and now I have Chicory, my sweet toulouse girl, to show for it. Fingers crossed some develop for you!!

Marty, whatcha looking at buying? Getting more goose eggs?

By the way, it is weird to not have any bators running. My bathroom feels empty after having eggs cooking for 5 months straight. Just thought I'd share that with you all.

Well some news~

I got a BOX of HATCHING EGGS today !!!! From Country!! It shipped out MAY 11 ..... It is now MAY 26th !!!! REALLY REALLY Bastards !! So it was to late to call the PO.... WED they will be getting a piece of my mind

2nd HATCHED 9 dozen eggs Marans & Welsummers ~ 88 have hatched successfully (only 20 need to still hatch)

& went to AUCTION today .... Bought a White Silkie Roo for $6 to be a boyfreind for My Silkie Brooder Girl! & bought 20 meat rabbits for 3.50 each

Filling the freezer BABY !!
(I didn't buy the cute speckled ones ~ I think they would be to cute to eat!)

I know, lol. I have one last egg in there trying to hatch. I think with the rain lately humidity has been to high because the chick looks sticky or something, and having problems. This is the first out of 15 eggs I've set from my sizzles to have any problems, so I'm guessing it has to be humidity. Once it's out, my incubator will be off for a week or so. Going out of town for 4-5 days, so couldn't set anything. I do have a broody with eggs due to hatch around the time I come back, and she's managed to slip a few more under her so I'll be taking those out and putting them in the bator once I get back, but it's getting a break for now.

Utah...Spirit is looking good! She's so sweet, too. She kept looking up at you like, "momma, you gonna pick me up?" I hope she continues to improve.

I hatched two Call ducklings last night...a BF and a grey. The BF pretty much jumped out of it's shell, on it's feet and motoring around. I left the second one over night and it's out, but slow to get going. I'm getting 50/50 on BF and grey ducklings out of the BF's. Pretty cool.
I decided to wait another week before posting birds on craigslist...still have a few birds to hatch that I'll want to sell with them.

Thanks, Dutch!!! Yep, that is the begging to be picked up look. She loves to be held and snuggled. I love her very much... she is well worth the extra care! Glad you keep hatching call babies left and right. Looks like your rough beginning to hatching season has turned around nicely.

Julie, I think I can adjust to not having bators running pretty easily. But, I won't be surprised to get the itch again once I downsize the excess birds and my keepers start laying.

ALMOST lost my first gosling this morning. My neighbor's kids' dog (they visit on weekends) got my favorite African (No. 1). Luckily the owners were right there to get dog off and with the africans sounding the alarm, I came running too. There are a lot of feathers missing and the dog had No. 1 pinned on his back, but I cannot find any punctures or evidence of blood. No. 1 is acting like he got his butt kicked, but I think he will be ok. Poor thing.

I went out to check on No. 1. I see traces of blood on his white underside. He has a slight limp, feathers are missing mostly in belly area, and he is stiff moving. They are all laying down sleeping and/or preening quietly in their sleeping area. His behavior and personality seem more normal. I hesitate to bring him inside and cause unnecessary stress and have left him with the group for now. But I am seriously debating on bringing him inside with his favorite buddy to keep a closer eye. Ugh!
