. And ya'll need to move to Wyoming because our Post Offices takes the greatest care of our little ones. When we get them, you get a call, even if its 3:00 am. lol.

On a lighter note, someone had an extremely busy night, and it definately was not me.

Wow.... been on the phone with my USPS airport receiving office. LOVE THEM!! They gave me a crash course on all flight times that would possibly have birds. They made sure they did not arrive already. The morning lady who personally picks up the birds from airport, is going over to airport to check latest flight just in case and took my cell #... and the main afternoon/night guy also took my cell # to call me if they arrive on any later flights tonight!
Lucky! I wish my PO was that helpful.

I have PUPPIES ! That is my news & I am getting some CRAZY rare Pheasant eggs! Mad at PO, (not my delivery lady ~ she rocks), My 10 year old boy Ramsey is rocking Baseball this year! I have way to many geese

Water buffalo probably tastes like a cross between beef and water chesnuts. Or not.

Big enough BBQ grill anything is possible. Some hickory wood and a nice rub

Marty, you must post pictures, the grey will dilute in the sun and become some kind of funky in coloring. They molt off though. The splash goslings will also fade over time too, but molting will change their look. Having the parent stock of your goslings I can tell you it isn't a calico (or two toned) but does have good bloodlines behind.
Hubbies condition has worsened, so I may be hit and miss on here depending on what they finally decide to do for him. Let's must say the military is NOT taking care of him very well so far.

Prayers for your hubby!
I guess thats why it is easy for me. To clarify ~ My animals have a great way of life, eat good, free range etc. So I think quality of life is very important. No matter what the end means is. Yes I am going to eat all my geese (someday) & my chickens/rabbits/guineas/&ducks, BUT they are spoiled & LOVED ALL THE WAY TO THE TABLE.

I have fished my whole life, having caught BIG ocean fish & sturgeon, way bigger than the birds/livestock we eat. They all pretty much all have the same anatomy inside & out .... fins/paws/wings ~ .tails/fins ~ legs / body cavity ~ same principle

I still haven't processed a duck...

my coworker did it and made curry. The curry was really good but the meat was tough. She said he was too old even though he was under 1yr. I have heard you need to rest the meat for a day first but my coworker never heard of that. I think 3of 5 ducklings I have are male so if I can't find new homes for them by 3 months (I read somewhere 3 months for muscovy is the best time) I will have to learn. I want to try it roasted next time.
Wulf: it was a Muscovy, right? Scovy needs prepared differently from other duck because they have a much lower fat content. Our first one was really tough because we used a traditional duck recipe and cooked it too well.
Well I cracked and finally bought an incubator
celebrate.gif
, one of the styrofoam types, and once I get it I am going to have to do some hatching. I think my duck hens are too fat and broke some of the eggs I ordered
hit.gif
and that was my excuse for ordering it.
What kind did you get? You'll be hooked in no time!
YES YES YES !!! Resting the meat is a MUST !!!! I did not even think to post that, thanks for reminding me!
x2!
My buff babies are at my local post office. I get to pick them up in 15 minutes!!

Well, there shall be no more free silkie duck hatching eggs for me. Something got the girl silkie and also ate 8 out of nine runner duck babies at the farm. Free ranging has its negatives for sure. I'm still shell-shocked over that and all the violence that happened in Seattle recently. I had that nagging feeling when I got up that not all was right with the world.

On a good note, I have two fluffy applewoods and a fluffy little trout runner in the brooder now! I have another trout in the incubator that's out but staying in there to rest. SW. Grr.

We had a power outage that lasted maybe a half hour last weekend and I think that did in this hatch pretty bad. I'll get my keepers, but doubt I'll have any extras.

Getting sick of hatching. Actually, sick of the disappointing few weeks I've had. So sad that I lost my silkie duckling. And I'm not holding out too much hope for the birthday silkies either. They're just too hard to hatch. Boss was mentioning getting silkie duck hatching eggs. I just told her to pay the money to Holderreads and be done with it.
