Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I've been watching a group of ducklings closely. They are feathered out now, and of my anconas, well, once isn't an ancona I think. It looks a lot like them, but its only got a sprinkling of greay (not black) spots just above the tail. Otherwise, a while duck.

Any thoughts??

I think you can get a white ancona that still carries the ancona genetics. Would probably be a cull in a serious breeding program.

Can anyone confirm that for me? I don't want to be giving bad info.

And if anyone is good with runner duck genetics: I have three ducklings hatched from trout runner eggs. Only one looks like a trout runner to me. Can trouts throw other colors? /duh

I believe your right. Similar issue with Magpie ducks.

Could they be Blue Trout?

Have any of you ever gotten shipped eggs with sticky moisture on them? the egg shells are intact or at least look to be so. Not sure on the air cells

Marty, yes sometimes they will hatch out all white and they would be culled from a breeding program. Just like my blue penciled marked Ancona was considered an instant cull.

Dutch, I'm not sure whether to say bummer or congrats about getting a pair of super africans. Personally, I love my super african goose as much as my dewlaps. And it's not like you don't have the acreage for another pair.

I'm not sure which it is, either, lol. I got the dewlaps because they are quieter and docile. This explains why Marcel has always chased the Runners off and keeps them in their place. The dewlaps don't care for the noisey, quick moving Runners....but she bosses them. The super africans are very cool looking....love their bills!
Hubbies buff dewlap gander. He was inspecting the other stalls as if they had something he needed.

Dutch glad you have two new goslings coming your way.
Very handsome boy! Love the cabinet behind him, too!

Sorry, got stuck on youtube.....
LOL...I do that sometimes. At least you weren't on ebay!

I'd candle them and look for fine cracks you might be missing.

Ok...the pics of the geese I posted earlier were comparison pics of the greys. I'll try to get some good pics of all of them tomorrow. Simon is HUGE! And such a lover, though my lap is shrinking, lol. He insists on getting in it, though. I can sit all day long and pet/talk/love on the dewlaps....they are so sweet.

I hatched 11 silkies in the last 24 hours, and have 2 Call babies working on it. My butterscotch girls have all decided to lay...again! Didn't expect that. I guess because I took their eggs right before they hatched, so they really want babies, lol. The boys have been molting, so I thought the season was done. Nice suprise!

I think congrats are in order all the way around, dutch! I think you will love your dewlap Africans as much as your grey dewlaps (maybe not as much as your buffs though). And exciting news on the new hatchlings!!

I don't know. They are mostly black at one week. Need to find a new trout runner egg supplier now.

Glad your call girls (did I just write that, sounds a little... off) are laying (okay, really off) again!
