Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

They are the oldest ones I have. They are only one month old. I ordered them from Priscilla Meinholz as day olds. There are 4 of them and 2 dewlaps that I hatched out about 1 week after getting the sebs in the mail. I also have 1 younger Seb that I hatched out and 4 even younger dewlaps that I received from California as day olds. Those are kept separately.

Could be a number of things.

-they need more space
-they need to be outside most of their day
-not getting enough stimulation
-feed issue
-could be asserting herself as alpha in the flock

Geese are nibblers, some become very aggressive about it. Parrot toys hung over the brooder sometimes help.

Thank you, Kevin and Quackers! I feel very lucky to have my flock. :)

Quackers, he's got to understand that. Darn hubbies can be so thoughtful on the one hand and dense on the other, depending on the situation.

I found out what my variety eggs are!
A are Amerucanas, O Are English Orpingtons, c are either Bantam Corinsh or Mille Cochins forgot which. Small white eggs are from my Spangled Old English pen.

That's quite the variety!

Hi again. Celtic, they are out all day, currently in a 6 by 10 dog kennel that is moved to fresh grass every day. They have a kiddie pool that is freshened every day. They are on 16% protein layer feed and Brewers Yeast. I cannot get Mazuri so far. I had the foot and leg problems on 20% chick starter and since I took them off of it have had no problems with that. During the day they do not get feed, just grass. That is what I believe I read on one of your posts. Correct me if I'm wrong, please. I interact with them throughout the day. Yesterday was an off day and I was with them alot. Yesterday is the day she started attacking them so much. Do you think she is jealous? I can make them a bigger area but I'm still afraid of hawks and owls even though I haven't lost but one chicken to what I thought was hawk predation and that was almost 2 years ago. The "brooder" is a room probably 8 by 14 with the floor covered in bedding that they have the whole of every night. Except one small area with a playpen in it for the babies. I really have 4 different age groups The oldest Sebs (the problem bird included) were hatched the 11th of May by Priscilla Meinhoz, the oldest 2 grey toulouse hatched the 19th of May by me, the youngest Seb hatched by me on the 25th of May, and the youngest 4 grey toulouse hatched by Carole in CA the 28th or so of May. The oldest 6 are together and the youngest 5 are together. I think the biter is also the one who bit the youngest Seb in the face shortly after I hatched him out. He was separated at the time but she reached over the short fence and got him. He is healed up now of course. The babies are behind a much taller fence now. I know that geese are nibblers but this doesn't seem as innocent as nibbling. She is very sneaky about it and is on they before they know it. She seems to always go for the wing tip. Its like she knows that it really hurts. Thanks, Shannon

That's a lot of chicken eggs!
It was a 1 dozen+ on variety of chicken and duck eggs on ebay. I was imagining more variety from the description but I am probably better off with the three types plus one egg. Otherwise I probably would end up with 24 roosters of different breeds.

Here are some photos of the new babies and the "'incubator tester" eggs I bought.

One Muscovy Duckling and two mini silver appleyard ducklings,

The newest muscovy duckling unless more of those eggs hatch...mama duck abandoned the eggs after the first three were born. I will have to get some photos of those soon too. The incubator has already come in handy.

The new mystery eggs I bought...at least a mystery to me. I sent off an email to find out what I was sent. The picture colors are not quite right for the next two photos.

Very cute babies!!!

We have another successful merger of goslings. We put Platinum (injured buff girl) with the two grey boys out with Barley & Co. All that is left inside is Spirit and her bestest girlfriend Ember. They seem to enjoy the space and are not stressing about the others gone. I caught Spirit stretching. First a full extension with wings flapping and then standing one-legged on knob, stretching out other leg. Her balance is especially good today.

Wow...I had forgotten just how significant her issue with the foot is. She's truly a little trooper!

Sorry I haven't been on much today. The turkeys are finally outside

. The "Special one" is doing better but not great. I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do with it long term. Also I found a great source for my excess egg problem. The Wolves

. I gave them a few raw and they LOVED them.
Bet they loved that!

One more barrage of pics....

My injured buff girl looking much better now:

Run Barley, run! LOL The goslings are looking great! I sure do like your landscape...will have to take a tour of Utah one of these days.

Thanks, Dutch!! She's one amazing girl!! And you really should travel to Utah. The landscape here is awesome, whether it is the red rock canyons to the south or the mountains to the north. There are quite a few horsey adventures you could do, too. I bet you'd love the annual bison roundup on antelope island. We rode in it two years ago and had a blast.

Any updates on delivery of your african/dewlap pair??
