Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Kevin, What kind of geese babies do you have? They look like Toulouse. It only takes about 5.5 seconds to be attached to them. You're already a goner.

Jaz, What kind of pups did you sell? Post us some pics. I love pups.

Janet, After talking to you last night I hardened my resolve. I had a mean talk with DH today and he saw it my way. He will still gripe, but he knows when to give in.

Dutch, I went on a ride in Zion national park one time and it was on my list of all time greatest experiences. You should definately take some trips to Utah. It's beautiful there. I like your new horse too. My mother always said, and I qoute: "Shannon thinks that if a horse is grey, it has NO Faults". And you now she was right!
I would sooo enjoy a ride in a place like that. Wish I had time to travel a little, pulling a horse trailer, ready to ride where the notion arises. I'm enjoying my new horse too. She's really sweet, and willing. Got feet trimmed last Saturday, and she's a bit tender footed at the moment. I don't judge a horse by it's color...but a grey was on my wish list, when I was horse hunting.

Yes they are truly tough little creatures. A local lady sells Canadians.... I shouldn't.... I shouldn't....I probably will

Just more additions to the wonderful zoo you are building!

No one deserves Taco Bell poising

I know they are not as big as I would like, but maybe I can put in a 2nd ??

NOW this is my second pond in my other area which we are keeping above ground

There 2 covered shelters they are 4' x 6' each with UV roofs

Playing in the pond
So awesome! And well done! Are you using pumps/filter system, or a drainage system for changing water? They sure look like they are enjoying themselves, lol.

We have 2 pump systems ~ submersible to drain & then we will use the hose from the pump when draining to water my trees & plants, & I can pump river water to our 2 ponds. Still new to this & will learn as I go ~ good thing I have a maintenance tech as a hubby! he will be building me all kinds of tweeked gadgets ! I am really happy with how they turned out so far

Okay gang, I watched Beatrice closely for a long while yesterday evening. She is obsessively preening the area around her vent. I think it is probably pretty irritated even though it doesn't look red or anything. It is somewhat distended. I also think that is where the feathers are coming from that she has ingested. She still won't eat. The medicine the vet sent home was actually some critical care food for herbivores, which she won't touch. The vet is going to teach me how to tube food and meds into her today. The good news is she is pooping a little. Todays vet visit is not until about 5:30 pm and I will try to let ya'll know what happens. Time just ran out last evening so went to bed at about 11:30 and was too tired to stay up or post. I know Beatrice is lonely. My boss just walked by and asked me to work my days off so I guess I'm working this weekend too. It sucks! But I need money so.....

Jaz, I LOVE your ponds. They look amazing with the landscaping!

Dutch, any time you want to come out to Utah.... you have a place to stay and a horse to ride here.

Shannon, preening is a positive sign! It's a good thing your little Beatrice is such a fighter! She needs to be right now.

I am so excited I am to be working with the teva custom shoe designer. After talking with him, I vetwrapped Spirit's club. Lo and behold she had traction and did not splay once last night (for the 1st time in 6 days since we started exercise program)! She seems visibly stronger with the vetwrap on her club. I may try to increase outside time today to an hour. And after reporting my success with the vet wrap to the teva guy yesterday afternoon, he is now brainstorming about how to attach rubber material to the vetwrap to use until she reaches full size in a couple of months and gets her permanent custom shoe.

In other news... my 4 mo old africans are starting to show breeding behavior! I guess my No. 1 super african is a boy, because he got in a fight with Ebay over a girl in the pool. No. 1 won, and then proceeded to mount the female in the pool, and the female acted like she was cool with it. WTH? I thought they had to be at least 8-10 months old before their hormones got the best of them??

Spirit - so glad your discovering ways to meet her needs. Good work, Iain!

Regarding the african geese, all I can say is "Oh to be a teenager in summertime again!" (ok I wasn't quite THAT bad) LOL

Jazz - Looks like they appriciate your ponds just fine! The rock slope looks simple enough to emulate, and is probobly more user friendly that the board with traction strips that we use here and there.

Thanx all! It was fun to build, and even more to watch them doing ZOOMIES !! The slope isn't completely done, I would like to put a few decorative stepping stones. The slope stones were only $1.07 each so it actually wasn't bad at all. The river rock was only $18 for a truckload. & I got to utilize a junk tire

Awesome, Utah! Be there in a few days! lol
The vet wrap will hinder air flow....are you taking it off at night to let it have air? You have a pic of her foot wrapped? It sounds like the right shoe will help her be a happy and productive goose. Can't wait to see what he designs for her. Has he done other birds, other than the penguin?
Haven't heard from Carole...emailing her in a couple of minutes.
I think the geese are establishing the pecking order for next spring. Teenagers!
