Spirit had her weekly vet visit today. Vet took off cast and we took her outside to watch her move. We watched her walk on grass on the bottom flat of her once clubbed foot, like an almost normal goose. I came close to crying in joy. Vet was amazed too! Still have a ways to go, and she got a new cast on to continue to correct foot, but we are making great progress.
Vet also gave me ok to put her in bigger pen, so hubby is already building a new 6'x8 pen for her room. Hope to have it done tomorrow. I think she and her companion will love the extra space!

Thanks!! Here is a pic of her getting her 3rd cast. You can see how much progress we have made!

Iain, how perfectly wonderful! Yay for spirit!!!

i just realized yesterday that my few chicken eggs that are developing should be going into lockdown soon. i think there are two or three out of the two dozen. i think i have two out of the dozen runner duck eggs developing. and all 5 of my muscovy eggs developing( i used them as a control group with the shipped eggs.

So cute Kevin!!! Congrats!!!

I just lost a gosling

So sorry...

I came home yesterday to a drowned silkie chick floating in one of the water containers I set up for the chickens. It was probably about 6 wks old. I've got all kinds of containers out there holding water for everyone....tired already of triple digit temps. Having a heat related death already this summer does not bode well for us here in Okie land.

I had a sad day today. My Roosters son was being a little sweet heart then all of a sudden he turned and started chasing my 11 ducklings outside. I caught him today pinning one down and pecking at its head. I tryed to intervein but he kept at it with another duckling. So I had to shoot him!!

I had to put down 2 of the ducklings that he had malled. I gave him several chances but he just kept getting meaner. This sucks cause he was very pretty and thick bodied.
You did what I probably would have done. Rank roosters don't have a place on my farm, no matter how gorgeous they are. It still sucks though.

Kevin, sorry about the gosling
Triplell, sorry about the roo

Here is a pic of one of the buff dewlap (hatched 5/10) and behind him is stromy, the lone grey dewlap toulouse.

Here again are several buff dewlap toulouse juviniles, stormy, and thanksgiving, the turkey from March who has adoopted the young goslings, and hangs with them and sleeps with them at night in lockup.
Marty! Your Dewies are looking good!

We will have to meet up & go out for breakfast on a Saturday this summer! We can talk turkey

We just installed an all cedar smokehouse yesterday ~
An outhouse with a toilet bowl in it....very progressive, lol. Just kidding...looks awesome!

Great news Iain, My day really sucked but like others have said tommarrow is another day!! We are finally getting rain, the first in 2 weeks. It has been nice for everything to dry up since my duck pens flooding. The flying blood suckers have been out in clouds, hell deep woods Off don't hardly work so now I'm sure it will be another bumper crop.

It was really nice not having to walk in 6 + inches of water to feed everyone and check fences. Oh well, it won't last for ever.
We haven't had much in the way of flying blood suckers this year, or last. Drought conditions aren't blood sucker friendly, lol

SO... for those of you who have been asking for new pics of Barley... I got a few shots this afternoon.

Here she is, looking pretty chunky already.

Here are a couple of group shots:

Finally, here is a shot of Chicory, my "Erin toulouse". I love her colors and quiet, sweet nature.

Well and update on the flock with out the Crazy Rooster, the rest of the chickens have all calmed way down!!!!! The ducklings that the roo was picking on 2 have minor injury's and will heal just fine. I now know that I truly did the right thing in putting him in chicken heaven!! We were very luck last night with all the rain that we didn't flood again. We got jsut over 2 inches, not as much as some of the state.:weee My duck pens were alittle sloppy but not too bad.
