Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Hiya Jazzy, she does have a little doll, doesn't she? I like baby quail, especially since they are featherd out and ready to go so very very quickly.

Whats new with you? I was gone the last day and a half, so I havn't seen the latest big pic update. How all the poultry yard work going?

I spent the 4th out of town with friends. bbq'd and lit off fireworks. nothing big but it was nice getting away.

Hey everyone! I have a duck question. This is my 1st time hatching duck eggs & I have 3 in the bator right now. 1 of them has a black dot in it. This can be seen through the shell & more prominent when it is candled. It looks nothing like the eye or dark spot that I see in my chicken eggs (that are very active). I can see some veining in there. It has been in the bator for a little over a week. The other 2 are clear other than being able to see the yolk very clearly. I've left them to give them time. Do ya'll think those eggs are ok? Especially the one with the black spot.

I've never used a bator so can't be of use but hope these guys can help you out!

If veins are still clearly visable, black dot egg is ok. If it dies, the veins will start braking down, and a very large red spot will devope (but veins gone). It can take up to 10 days for veins or a fertile spot to be visable. I sometimes have ducks and geese hatch 3 days apart, always corralating to the time when they first began to devlope. Don't give up on clears until day 11. IF still clear and no red spots or veins, toss em.

Good luck! If you need anything, we're in and out, but someone (or many) will always help.

. I was beginning to worry. All of my chicken eggs were showing veining by day 3 & most certainly by day 7. I know, there different. lol. I was worrying because my daughter (9) has always wanted a duck. I didn't want to get just one so, luckly we received 3. I'm praying they all make. She will be so happy. We haven't touched them lately. I have the black dot cirlcle very lightly with one of my red grading pencils and facing the window of the incubator so, I can see it when I check temps and humidity. Now, my son (13) want to try his hand at incubating turkey eggs. Any suggestions on which ones?
