Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I have already spoken with guy, I have his number if you want it. Also reserved it for Oct.
Excellent. Wondering if I should recommend renting theirs instead of the ones my boss rents now.
I got a deal on the eggs $66 for 5 dozen with shipping. So I am very happy to get even the 76 Pekin eggs to go into LD. I would love to hatch some call ducks! I have hatched just one, and it was just the cutest thing

Hoping you get a huge pekin hatch! I've got pekins in lockdown right now.

Hey for 3 week old eggs..... That is a great hatch rate ~ especially if they were scrambled upon arrival with cracked eggs.

I just bought 10 dozen Pekin eggs, shipped & packaged great in the boxes, and one arrived completely intact

, and the other was mangled & stinky & crap

So I had to wash ALL the eggs in one of the boxes & smelled FOWL rotten

~ and the other I put in just fine ALL intact.

I currently have 76 eggs going into LD today out of the 90ish eggs that made it thru transit intact (I bought the 120 w/ 60 in each box) So the one that was mangled I knew I would not get many to hatch after losing a dozens that were cracked, & the others not cracked coated with rotten egg, and then being washed.....

So the guy refunded me total cost for one of the boxes, which was really nice of him.

Wow! That's a lot of eggs. Are you going to process them all? If so, you must really like duck.

That was nice of the guy to give you a refund.

I have a bunch sold, and am going to rotisserie smoke them ~ them food save them, for salad meat, duck salad sandwiches, omelette's, and soooo much more. Ever since I had a perfectly cooked duck, Guinea, chukar, rabbit, & goose I am sold, & chicken is just hog so tasty anymore. I am buying a whole hog with lots of sausage & just checked into a sausage make / meat grinder/slicer
& am going to HOMEmake some gourmet duck/goose/smoked pork bratwurst! I saw some recipes for some

Caribbean~ filled with roasted chicken, rice, and plantains. Sweet and spicy.

MOLE~ taste the chocolate, then cumin, and finally chilies. It contains fragrant guajillo and ancho chilies.

Cajun-spiced Boudin style sausage is a beef and pork link cooked in duck stock with plenty of chilies and green onions & rice for a complete

Another Mexican-inspired sausage ~ light in color, but bold with Southwestern flavor! It has a kick of heat, and is teeming with whole roasted corn kernels, lime, and brined jalapeños.

Sausage is bursting with cilantro, Serrano chilies, and a hint of beer. It’s made with chicken and turkey and has a Southwestern center with a distinct flavor.

Duck Chorizo ~ cumin, chilies, vinegar, and finishes with a minty, spicy taste.

YUM. I've only tried duck once and it was just a bite of Muscovy, but I think I would like it. I like the dark meat on chicken, turkey, etc.

I just got 18 Serama eggs in the mail today and NONE were broken, which was really a nice surprise. I only have a little Brinsea Mini with 12 spots in the auto turner. I'm debating whether I should put them all in and hand turn them or find someone to incubate the 6 I don't have room for. Any thoughts on hand turning? I'm afraid I might screw up the whole batch if I try it.

Everyone remember Spraddle Legs? She's no longer with us. I'm glad she's no longer in pain but I will dearly miss her. I'd gotten so attached trying to save her. I know's it's just a turkey but she was more than that to me. It's sad I was sad when the gosling died but didn't cry at all yet the poor turkey that deserved to be put out of it's misery is gone and I can't quit sobbing. It's gonna be a long day

Aww,

. Turkeys are sweet babies. it's easy to get attached.

They defiantly are. They might even be as sweet as most of the goslings I've raised. At least she's no longer suffering. Thanks Julie
