Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I really like their temperaments, too. These are my first geese, but I remember a few aggressive geese from my childhood! These two are so quiet and laid back.

This guide really helped me when I hatched my duck eggs. Definitely recommend reading it.

And...here's my new puppy!!!

Hi guys, just one more minor egg hatching question - what's the best day of the week to set eggs on if you want to guarantee that all the ducklings will finish hatching by Sunday evening, but not start hatching too early on Friday, as I won't be home then?

planning hatches is like planning human children... no matter when they are supose to show some will ALWAYS decide to come at a different time

Lol, okay, what day would make it likely that most would hatch over the weekend, in theory? What with me having a homemade incubator and this being me first time, I'm sure I'm not gonna get them exactly when I want them, but I want to aim for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at least.

x2!

I've been trying for months to get a hatch to happen on my days off. Never, ever works out that way.

Planning for a Saturday hatch, they come on Thursday. Plan for a Thursday hatch, they come on Friday. Shipped eggs are a bit slower to hatch in my experience compared to fresh out of the duck eggs. I would set on a Saturday and cross your fingers.

Okay! I had just read in another thread that 28 days was when they started hatching, not when they finished it. I might split the difference and set Friday evening and see what happens.

Most of mine pip by day 26. But then again, I'm usually setting very fresh eggs. Or maybe I just have impatient ducklings.

They do take 24-48 hours from external pip to hatch, so you'll probably be right in the window. You ordered your eggs from Metzer, right? I'd go with what they do then.
