Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Well it looks like I need to pluck a duck today ..... We shall see how that goes!

Also my hubby just made me a outdoor/indoor 55 gallon nipple watering system
I would post pics but for some reason I can't

I always shoot high, and if you sell

I never use OBO, unless I am wanting to actually sell them for 15ish
if not ~ lower the price after a week, it also depends on how fast you are wanting to move them. How many are you selling again & the sexes? I know you posted pics a couple pages back, will have to go back & take a peek. I would be interested in the girls maybe??
I have a buyer coming over to buy a flock of my ancona ducklings around 6pm today ! She said she wants around 6, but we shall see ~ we all know how Craiglist flakes are

X2. As soon as OBO hits the equation I seem to get a call from Cheap *** in Waco.

Mom and I have decided to always pluck the ducks.. then if they need skinned it's soooo much easier. Make sure the water is HOT and if you hold onto a wingtip feather till it'll pull out the rest of the feathers are a piece of cake

Sasha's finally home from being spayed. Poor baby's passed out on my bed. It defiantly took a lot out of her.

Do you let them set like you do chickens?

we butchered 6 the other day... let them sit in salt water overnight just like small game then into the freezer tried skinning with feathers on and it was a nightmare

so we plucked and I think the pin feathers were bad enough Mom skinned one after and it was waaaaaaaay easier

X2, except I don't skin them usually. I like a crispy skin, even if I don't eat it. Gives me that full ducky flavor. Besides, my are egg ducks mosty, so mine don't seem to be as fat as soom, especially the khakis.

Khakis are TINY under all those feathers. We caught one or two in molt this time. I told Mom those can be duck and dumplings

and we have a few to either rotisory over the fire or Peking. The 6 we did were extra drakes from here, QJ and Julie. I told hubby closer to Oct we should look for more for the freezer... so many of us like them.

LOL, Yep some of those Khaki boys look anorexic almost! I don't think of them as serving four either, I think of them as a meal for two pretty much. (My DH is happy to have one to himself.) The pekings do clean up nicer, and make better company birds. Of course, if you want duck fast, back to those anorexic Khakis. Do you remember the Indian Runner in the movie Babe? (the little sheep pig?) He always makes me think he's a Khaki at heart, when he says "Now I know the life of an anorexic duck doesn't amount to anything...."
