Hi all.![]()
awwwww I want duckies!! how neat!!Hey all!
Been popping in from time to time, but wanted to share what I've been up to.
13 healthy ducklings, finished hatching yesterday.
And Number 14, who somehow hatched with an eye issue (gross warning):
Treating with Vetericyn. It starts looking better and then gets worse again. The duckling is quite possibly blind in that eye, but it seems to be dealing with its handicap. Going to talk with the avian vet tomorrow and see if I should add an oral antibiotic.
That's so annoying. I've had issues out in our rural area, too, though. There are nosy, crazy people everywhere, I think! Hopefully, it was just someone curious about the ducks and not being malicious.I think at least once last week someone did. I have all of my duck pens organized down to the tee and several things were moved around. It's my least favorite part of living in the city. Too many people are nosy and crazy. Luckily every pen is locked with a lock but that won't stop everyone.

Thanks Christine I'm hoping it's just that as well. That's so annoying. I've had issues out in our rural area, too, though. There are nosy, crazy people everywhere, I think! Hopefully, it was just someone curious about the ducks and not being malicious.
I had a duckling with an eye problem last spring. I washed it out often with a sterile saline solution, too. That seemed to help.
Maybe I ought to try the saline too. The vetericyn is so sticky and I'm not sure how much is actually getting in the eye. That's so annoying. I've had issues out in our rural area, too, though. Scovies lay seasonally, so they are going to be more difficult to find now. I've never hatched them, but have head they can be harder than other ducks to hatch. Have you tried asking on the thread for your state if anyone has any eggs?Duck eggs, are they harder to hatch that chicken eggs?
I am having a failed attempt at silkie shipped eggs with air cells detatched and wondering if shipped duck eggs are hardier than bantam eggs or does it only matter on USPS.
And wondering about the incubation process.
My husband asked if the next few I try to hatch could be mottled scovy if I can find a few eggs, I said I would ask about duck incubation compared to what I am dealing with now. I cant find anyone local that has any eggs are these kind rare or what? He only wants a few because he said they are quiet ducks.
Thanks ya all! Sally from Eastern PA
Sorry for sounding dumb but where do I find those threads lol!Scovies lay seasonally, so they are going to be more difficult to find now. I've never hatched them, but have head they can be harder than other ducks to hatch. Have you tried asking on the thread for your state if anyone has any eggs?

My muscovys had nearly 100% hatch rate under the hen but when I tried to hatch a few in the bator it didn't work out. My adult hens are molting and thus not laying. I am also not sure on the mottled... is pied what you are looking for? Muscovys are great, they are quiet and come in a lot of colors and have tons of personality!
