My Dads land lady has Australorps and boy are they pretty and big too. I want something that can forge and kinda not stick out like a sore thumb. has a nice temperment and lays a nice egg. I do like Brahmas too I had some of the Buffs and still have a light Brahma hen. Hey MartyI used to keep black australorps, and I loved them. Their eggs are medium to med. dk. brown. One of them had spotted eggs, like the brahmas I'm gettig will have.
I plan on selling eggs eventually. Serama's, duccles, and mottled japs. I've went with mostly bantams.Good to see you!
Well, Today I bought some Mottled Javas and Dark Brahma chicks. I also got 5 BCMs from the same lady. I just want a pretty egg basket, I admit. They show their birds though (not the BCMs, which I only want for super dark eggs) so my kids will probobly mess with the javas and brahmas for 4H.
We're building new fences and making winter buildings for the birds. Hard to believe that breeding season starts here in another 4-5 monthes. I'd rather make the pens and be ready to seperate flocks the first of February. 6 pens for geese (far apart), 3 pens for breeding ducks, and 4 pens for chickens. I'm planning to sell my eggs on EBAY. Maybe I can teach a few of them the proper way to pack and ship fresh hatching eggs. I've been saving lots of tiny boxes and wrapping material. I like the idea of each egg wrapped small end down in its own box, then lots of packaging top, bottem and sides, to protect the little boxes too. Seems like NOT labeling them as eggs makes the trip safer.
I've been sending out test shipments of call duck eggs. Sent out 2 batches, both arrived with no breaks. 7/8 are developing on the first set, waiting to hear about the other. I'll feel so much more comfortable selling them now that I've tested my shipping methods, lol. I just wrap the eggs in bubblewrap, and then pack them in shredded paper with big bubblewrap around the sides of the box. Only sent small batches that fit in small boxes, which are more sturdy. If i need a bigger box I plan on doing a box in a box. Great, thanks. Now that I've got these I'm already making aviary plans and trying to decide if I want maned ducks or widgeons next year, lol. And the EE chicks are your chickens grandbabies, so they ought to be cute.
If they have internally pipped I don't think you should open the bator anymore you don't want them shrink wrapped.i just saw that i've got 2 outta 4 call duck eggs hatching. all i've read about them, you have to assist them because of their short bill, large head and short neck. so quickly got the 4 out, candled them and found 2 had internally pipped and had punched a hole in the shell....
i've just put 3 call duck eggs (different set) in lockdown a few minutes ago; they'll hatch the 26th . then i have 2 mille fleur d'uccle bantam chicken eggs that will hatch 29-30th.
