Tick Control That’s Nontoxic to Chickens?

I am new to keeping chickens, so had checked with the local chicken “expert” at our agway, who told me it was okay to use. Of course you will have to do your own research. I didn’t spray in on my birds, or inside the coop (where they sleep). I sprayed the perimeter of the run. Please post if you find different information,
. I would never want to use anything that would hurt my birds. Or pass on bad advice.
I guess that makes sense. Spraying the outside perimeter of the coop might be safe. Will be interested in more experienced opinions. I have a serious tick problem here so I'm going to follow. Also, is it safe for beneficial insects? Bees, ladybugs, etc.?

We use cedar oil. It does not kill them, but it repels them. And it works!!!! Many of the chemicals that kill ticks also kill bees and butterflies. But not cedar oil. You can even harvest from the garden the same day you spray. This year I used cedarcide because it was cheaper and they through in the dispenser. I only spray around the perimeter of an acre of land. Cost me about $30 a year. Wondercide is also a good cedar oil source. I live in New England and ticks are horrible this year. But I have only seen three so far.

I just checked the Cedarcide website. They do NOT recommend using it near the coop. Just an FYI.

I’m going to get some to use around our picnic area tho. I’ve used it before and it is the bomb!

Thank you so much. I sent an email to Wondercide, but they have not responded yet. You can bet I will be paying a visit the the so-called chicken expert at Agway!

It is safe for use around bees and butterflies. I can’t speak to the safety of the ladybugs though....

Hmmmmmmmm.
Not that I think this is still open for discussion; but I posted that they had not responded. At least wanted to give the company credit for replying to my inquiry.

Cedar oil is toxic for chickens though and will lead to liver failure. Effective for ticks but dangerous for chickens
