Tin Shelter Building Steps for Peafowl

I am using this set up for my greens pen, here is a photo to give you an idea of how it will be set up, you could use two instead of just one to make a higher shelter then cover them with chicken wire and a heavy duty tarp real easy to set up, this one is for my Kiwi plants i started last year . these panels are 4 by 16 feet and cost around 20 dollars each

The outside roosts are just over six foot so I can walk under them without hitting my head, The ones inside are about five foot. The roof height is seven foot in the back and eight foot in the front. You need not worry about the plastic panels, they are opaque and the peas will not have any problem with them.

Thanks!

We just went ridding around looking at carports. There were 4 or 5 different sellers all within a mile or less of each other and everyone was selling the SAME thing! Carolina carports. They had one that was the perfect size, but it was just a sales demo one and they don't sell ones that size. It was perfect! We really wished we could have just bought that one. We soon learned that once you get into adding a tin back to the carport, adding more height, etc, it really bumps up the price. Sure you can get a default one for around $500, but the price quickly goes up for sure. The first place we stopped at the guy told us you can go on their website and create your own carport using a program they have on there and it gives you a price quote. I just used that and made a regular style carport that is 12W X 21L X 8H and has one end enclosed. The total is $1,320. I checked if the height on the side was 7ft and it would be $1,220 if it was 7ft instead of 8ft.

My Dad called his friend, who said business is slow right now and they might be able to come out and build the shed for me Thursday or within the next 3 weeks. The total priced out for my Dad's friend to do it is around $800 which includes a materials cost estimate and the labor cost. Also, I would get to help build the shed so hopefully I would learn how to build a shed from helping and watching.

We are still looking into carport options, but it looks like we may be able to get my Dad's friend and his crew to build it. Since they are not busy right now, and right when my Dad called them they just happened to be talking about building this shed for me since things are slow, it is looking like they would get this done faster than if I had to wait around 3 months for the Carolina Carport people to come build one.

I love your setup.

Hey everyone! Tomorrow we will be starting - and hopefully finishing - the build on the tin shelter. My Dad's friend and his crew are not busy so they wanted to build the shelter! Tomorrow my Dad and I will be helping them as well as learning how to build a shelter. I will bring my camera to document the process in hopes of helping me remember how to build the shelter and also hopefully it will help others without much building experience. I will post the photos on this topic and I might put them up on my website as well. I met up with my Dad's friend today to show him where the shelter will be and he dropped off all of the materials for tomorrow's build. We will get up early to work on the shelter, and it will be around 20 deg in the morning which is cold for me so hopefully I will be able to feel my hands!

AugeredIn - those photos are very helpful thank you!

I am pretty sure the shelter will look almost just like the ones you have, but it might be taller. The pen is already built. It has been up for months now I was just waiting on the shelter. It is made the same way my other pen is made, which is using T posts and welded wire and wooden posts for the corners. We got the idea from Sid's website page showing photos of his peafowl pens: http://www.texaspeafowl.com/pens_ideas_equip.html I might have future pens made differently. I am still learning on what I like and what I don't like with the pens. I know this new one is going to have some kind of rope that I will use to hold up the netting.
